Find Gainesville Arrest Mugshots, Current Bookings & Jail Records

For Gainesville, Florida, the primary county-jail lookup is the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office inmate search. It can be searched by last name, first name or booking number, accepts incomplete names and can also return the current inmate population.

Use the jail search for current custody information, then use the Alachua County Clerk of Court when you need the criminal case docket or disposition. A booking entry, charge or mugshot documents an arrest process; it does not establish guilt or prove a conviction.

Important distinction: “Today’s bookings,” “recent arrests” and “current inmates” are not identical lists. A person booked today may already have bonded out, while someone currently in the jail may have been booked earlier. Always check the booking date and current custody status.
Fastest official route

Start With the Alachua County Inmate Search

The Sheriff’s Office directs the public to its inmate-search system for people currently held at the Alachua County Jail. Search with as much identifying information as you have, but use partial-name searching when spelling is uncertain.

Save identifiers before leaving the booking record. Write down the full legal name, booking number or MNI number, booking date, listed charges and any available case number. Those details make court-record, bond and records-request searches much more reliable.

A booking page answers custody questions; the court docket is the better source for what happened to the criminal case afterward.

Recent arrest intent

What “Today’s Gainesville Bookings” Actually Means

A current-inmate search is a live custody tool, not necessarily a permanent chronological archive of every arrest made in Gainesville that day. Someone can be arrested, booked and released before you run the search, while a current inmate may have entered the jail days or weeks earlier.

Current inmate

The person is shown as being held in the Alachua County Jail at the time the official system reflects the record. This is the best route for immediate custody questions.

Recent booking

The booking happened recently, but the person may or may not still be in custody. Check the booking date and current status rather than assuming “recent arrest” means “currently jailed.”

Arrest report

An arrest or offense report is a separate public-record category. If the information you need is not in the inmate system, the Sheriff’s public-records process may be the appropriate route.

Court case

The criminal case may continue after release. Use the Clerk of Court’s records system to check docket activity and case disposition.

Booking photo route

Where to Look for Gainesville Booking Photos

Start with the official inmate record. The exact information displayed by jail systems can change, so do not assume that every current or historical booking will include a publicly displayed mugshot.

If the official inmate search does not show the booking photograph or the booking is no longer available through the live custody tool, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office provides a formal public-records request process. Ask for an existing record by identifying the person and arrest as specifically as possible.

Current custody

Use the inmate search first. This is the fastest official route for a person presently held in the county jail.

Photo missing

Use the Sheriff’s public-records process. Include the full name, approximate arrest or booking date and booking number if known.

Case outcome

Do not rely on the photo. A mugshot captures one stage of an arrest process and does not show whether charges were dismissed, reduced or resulted in conviction.

A mugshot is not a finding of guilt. Arrest photographs should not be presented as evidence that a person committed the alleged offense. Check the court record when the legal outcome matters.
Read the record correctly

Charges, Booking Numbers and Case Numbers Are Different

Common identifiers you may encounter in a Gainesville arrest search
Need Best source Useful detail
Current custody Alachua County Sheriff inmate search Name and booking number
Booking details Jail record Booking date, charges, custody status
Criminal case Alachua County Clerk of Court Case number, docket events and disposition
Arrest/offense report Sheriff public records Agency report or incident identifier
State criminal history Florida Department of Law Enforcement Name-based Florida criminal-history search

A listed charge describes what was recorded at the booking stage. It can change as prosecutors review the case, a judge rules on matters, or the prosecution reaches a final disposition. When accuracy matters, pair the jail information with the court docket.

Release information

Gainesville Bond and Jail Release Information

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office states that bonds may be posted inside the jail lobby from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and through the service window to the left of the jail entrance after hours.

For cash bonds, the Sheriff says payment must be made in cash, money order or cashier’s check payable to the Clerk of the Court. Money orders and cashier’s checks should contain the inmate’s correct full name and MNI number.

Cash bond

Confirm the current bond amount and inmate identifiers before bringing payment. Do not rely on an old screenshot or third-party listing because court orders can change.

Surety bond

The Sheriff says the bonding agency must be certified and registered with the Alachua County Clerk of Court and ACSO to write bonds in the county.

Bond does not equal release time. Release requires several administrative and legal checks. Court-document errors, other warrants, holds or detainers, electronic-monitoring requirements and other conditions can delay release after a bond is posted.

For bond questions, ACSO lists the Booking Support Bureau Administrative Supervisor at (352) 491-4479 during normal business hours and a Booking Support Supervisor at (352) 491-4459 24 hours a day.

Case follow-up

Check the Alachua County Criminal Court Record

Once you have the name and case information from the booking record, use the Alachua County Clerk of Circuit Court’s online Court Records system. The Clerk describes it as providing the latest documents on file, subject to restrictions on records that are confidential or otherwise unavailable online.

Copy the exact name from the jail record. Small name differences can create false matches or hide the correct case.
Use the case number when the jail record provides one. A case number is generally more precise than a broad name search.
Review the docket rather than only the charge label. Look for filings, hearings, orders and disposition information.
Recognize online-access limits. Some records and document images are confidential, restricted or unavailable through the public portal.

Request Arrest or Jail Records From the Sheriff

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office accepts public-record requests online, by phone and in person. The Records Customer Service Window is at 2621 SE Hawthorne Road, Gainesville, Florida and the Sheriff currently lists window hours of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

For Department of the Jail records, ACSO lists (352) 491-4444. For offense reports and in-car video recordings, the listed number is (352) 367-4006.

What to include

  • Full name used at booking
  • Approximate arrest or booking date
  • Booking or MNI number if known
  • Specific record requested
  • Case or incident number if available

Possible fees

ACSO states that requests involving 20 pages or more or more than 15 minutes of employee time can incur charges. Its published duplication rates include 15 cents per single-sided page and 20 cents per double-sided page, plus applicable staff time.

Florida public-records law concerns existing records. The Sheriff explains that the agency does not have to create a new record simply to answer a request.
After locating an inmate

Visitation, Phone Calls, Mail and Inmate Money

Visitation

ACSO requires inmate visits to be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Eligible inmates are generally provided up to two hours of non-contact visitation per week, subject to housing and disciplinary restrictions.

For visitation assistance, the Sheriff lists (352) 491-4511.

Phone calls

Inmates cannot receive incoming calls. ACSO states that outgoing telephone privileges are generally available daily between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m..

Beginning August 3, 2026, ACSO states calls are automatically limited to 10 minutes.

Mail

Non-privileged incoming mail is generally limited to postcards under the Sheriff’s current rules. Include the inmate’s full name and a complete return address.

Money and care packages

ACSO lists lobby kiosk and money-order options as well as Access Corrections and Access Securepak. The full inmate MNI number may be required for a transaction.

Jail-service rules can change. Confirm the current visitation, mail and deposit instructions on the Sheriff’s official inmate-services page before sending money, mail or traveling to the jail.

When You Need a Florida Criminal-History Search Instead

A Gainesville jail search answers a local custody question. It is not the same as a statewide criminal-history check. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is the state repository for Florida criminal-history information.

FDLE currently lists a $24 public criminal-history search fee. Its Instant Search also carries a $1 credit-card processing fee and returns non-certified results immediately. Certified and non-certified staff searches are separate options.

Gainesville custody

Use the Alachua County Sheriff inmate search.

Alachua court case

Use the Alachua County Clerk of Court records portal.

Florida history

Use FDLE when you need a broader Florida criminal-history search rather than a single jail booking.

Wanted person

FDLE also operates a Wanted Persons Search, but its own warning says the database should not be treated as confirmation that a warrant remains active.

Troubleshooting

Why a Gainesville Mugshot or Booking May Be Hard to Find

No name match

Try a shorter surname or first-name variation. The official inmate search allows incomplete entries.

Person was released

A live inmate search focuses on current custody. Use court records or a Sheriff records request for a booking that no longer appears.

Wrong jail

An arrest in Gainesville does not guarantee the person is presently in the Alachua County Jail. Transfers, other jurisdictions and state or federal custody can change where a person is held.

Photo unavailable

Not every public-facing booking record necessarily displays a photograph. Request the specific existing record from the responsible agency when appropriate.

Charge looks outdated

Move to the Clerk’s case docket. Booking charges can differ from later prosecutorial or court outcomes.

Similar names

Do not identify someone from a name alone. Cross-check booking number, date, age or other available identifiers before drawing a conclusion.

First appearance

What Happens After a Gainesville Booking

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office states that new arrestees appear before a judge within 24 hours of intake. The first-appearance proceeding is conducted by closed-circuit television while the defendant remains at the jail.

Family members or others who want to attend are directed to the criminal courthouse rather than the jail courtroom. The Sheriff identifies the criminal courthouse as 220 South Main Street, Gainesville.

A first appearance is an early court stage, not the final outcome of the criminal case. Bond, release conditions and later proceedings can change after the initial booking.
