Corrections & Removal Policy

Misidentification • Updated dispositions • Stale bookings • Publication review

A Clear Process for Correcting or Reviewing Content on Our Site

Booking and mugshot content can become misleading when identity is wrong, custody has ended, charges have changed, or a later court outcome is missing. We provide a review process for credible correction and removal requests concerning content published on countyjailmugshots.org/.

Scope: We can review and change content on our own website. We cannot change, seal, delete, or expunge a record maintained by a sheriff, jail, court, corrections department, or other government agency.

Requests We Review

Misidentification, materially outdated information, incorrect charge descriptions, missing disposition context, duplicate or misleading publication, broken official links, and credible privacy or safety concerns.

Records We Do Not Control

Official booking databases, court files, arrest records, jail rosters, warrants, and agency records remain under the control of the responsible government entity.

Examples of Issues That Merit Review

  • A page associates the wrong person with a booking or mugshot.
  • A booking entry is described as a conviction.
  • A case was dismissed, acquitted, expunged, sealed, or otherwise resolved in a way that materially changes the context of our page.
  • A page states or implies that a person is still in custody when the source is historical.
  • A mugshot or booking record is duplicated in a misleading way.
  • An official source has corrected the underlying information.
  • A government link has moved or no longer supports the statement on our page.
  • A credible privacy, safety, or legal issue relates specifically to our publication.

What to Include in a Request

  1. Exact page URL. Identify the countyjailmugshots.org/ page you want reviewed.
  2. Specific information at issue. Point to the name, booking detail, charge, photo, caption, or statement that is wrong or outdated.
  3. Reason for the request. Explain whether the issue is misidentification, changed status, dismissal, expungement, stale information, or another concern.
  4. Reliable supporting material. When available, provide a current official court, sheriff, jail, or government source supporting the correction.
  5. Minimum necessary personal information. Do not send sensitive documents or identifiers unless genuinely needed to evaluate the request.

How We Evaluate a Request

Factor What we consider
Identity Whether the page may concern the wrong person or lacks enough identifiers to justify a confident association.
Current accuracy Whether custody, charge, court outcome, or source information has materially changed.
Source quality Whether the correction is supported by a current official source or reliable documentation.
Context Whether our page creates a misleading impression even if an older source was technically accurate at the time.
Privacy and safety Whether there is a credible, specific concern connected to our own publication.
Public-interest value Whether updating, limiting, or removing our presentation better serves accuracy and reader understanding.
Possible outcomes: We may correct wording, update a status, add context, remove an outdated image or passage, add a link to a later disposition, consolidate duplicate material, or remove our own page/content when appropriate. The appropriate response depends on the facts and sources available.

If the Official Government Record Is Wrong

If the problem originates in a sheriff, jail, court, or government database, you may need to contact that agency directly. Updating our website does not change the underlying official record.

No Paid Removal Requirement

Our correction-review process should not depend on purchasing a background-check product or affiliate service. A person reporting a genuine error should be able to request review without buying a commercial service.
