Houston County Dothan Mugshots, Jail Bookings & Arrest Records
For a current Houston County jail search, start with the Houston County Sheriff’s official Inmate Confinements system. It lets you check current confinements and search admits or releases by date range, name, charge and arresting agency. Dothan Police arrest posts can provide additional city-arrest context, while Houston County court records are the better source for what happened after booking.
Check current Houston County custody first
The Sheriff’s inmate system is the fastest official starting point when you want to know whether someone is currently confined in Houston County or was recently admitted or released.
A booking photo answers only part of the question. Use the custody record first, then the court record when you need the case outcome.

How to search Houston County Dothan AL mugshots and jail bookings
The Houston County Sheriff’s official inmate system is labeled Inmate Confinements. It offers separate routes for current confinements, admits by date range and releases by date range. Search fields include first, middle and last name, charge and arresting agency.
What a Houston County booking record can tell you
Booking or confinement status
This tells you whether the person appears in the jail system at the time of the search. Because jail status can change after bond, release, transfer or another court action, treat it as time-sensitive information.
Charge information
A jail charge describes the allegation associated with the booking. It is not the same as a conviction, and the final court charge or disposition can differ from the jail-stage entry.
Arresting agency
The inmate search includes an arresting-agency field. In Houston County this can help distinguish a Dothan Police arrest from a Houston County Sheriff arrest or another agency’s case.
Booking photograph
When a booking image is available, use it only as one identifier. Names, dates, agency information and court records are more useful for avoiding a wrong-person match.
Dothan Police arrests and Houston County jail custody are related but different
Dothan Police publishes an official arrests/news section that can provide context for arrests made by the city police department. Some posts identify charges and state that a person was booked into Houston County Jail.
The Houston County Sheriff inmate system remains the stronger source for the county-custody question. If a Dothan Police post says someone was arrested, check the Sheriff’s current confinement or recent admit/release records to determine the jail-side status.
Dothan Police Department arrests can help explain a reported Dothan arrest or police announcement.
Houston County Sheriff Inmate Confinements is the official route for current confinements and recent admits/releases.
How to check the Houston County court case after a booking
The Houston County Circuit Clerk is the official record keeper for proceedings in the county’s District and Circuit Courts. Its criminal divisions handle court records after the booking stage, making the clerk and Alabama court system more useful than a mugshot page when you need the later case history.
Circuit Clerk
Courthouse: 114 North Oates Street, Dothan, AL 36303
Main phone: 334-677-4800
Circuit Criminal: 334-677-4858
District Criminal: 334-677-4869
Trial-court record lookup
Alabama’s Judicial System provides access to trial-court information through its court-record services. The Houston County Clerk notes that most trial-court information can be obtained through Alabama’s “Just One Look” on-demand service, which may require a fee.
What to carry from the jail record into the court search
- Exact legal name shown in the booking record.
- Approximate arrest or booking date.
- Charge description as originally listed.
- Arresting agency.
- Any case number or court identifier you later obtain.
Bond, release and custody changes
If the current-confinement search no longer shows the person, check the Sheriff system’s release-by-date option before assuming the original information was wrong. A person can be booked and released quickly, especially when bond or another release order is completed.
Use the current-confinement view for present county custody.
Use admits by date range when you know roughly when the booking occurred.
Check releases by date range and then verify the court record if you need the reason or later case status.
For time-sensitive jail information that is unclear online, call Houston County Jail at 334-712-0762. Avoid relying on an old screenshot or repost when release status matters.
Houston County Jail visitation and inmate phone rules
The Sheriff’s visitation page says face-to-face visits are scheduled by calling the jail and that walk-in visitation is not accepted. The published rules require scheduling no later than 3 p.m. on the Friday before weekend face-to-face visits.
| Rule | Published requirement |
|---|---|
| Scheduling | Call 334-712-0762; no walk-in face-to-face visits. |
| Visitor list | The inmate must complete an approved visitation list; the list is restricted to eight names. |
| Adult ID | Visitors age 16 or older must present current government-issued photo ID. |
| Visit length | The published face-to-face rule allows one 30-minute visit on the designated weekend. |
| Group size | No more than two visitors, including children, are allowed for a face-to-face visit on the visitation day. |
| Electronic devices | Electronic devices are not allowed inside the jail during visitation. |
Inmate telephone service
The Sheriff currently identifies ICSolutions as the inmate telephone provider. The published jail page says an inmate receives one free two-minute call upon initial booking, calls may be monitored and recorded, three-way calling and call forwarding are not permitted, and the maximum call time is 15 minutes.
How to add money to a Houston County Jail commissary account
The Sheriff’s commissary page lists separate services for phone accounts and commissary accounts. For commissary deposits, the published instructions direct users to Inmate Canteen and say deposits can be made online 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
What you need for an online deposit
- Inmate’s name.
- Inmate’s number.
- Houston County Jail as the location.
- A credit or debit card.
Lobby kiosk alternative
The Sheriff also lists a jail-lobby kiosk as an alternate deposit route during normal business hours. A valid driver’s license or identification card is required, and the page states that a service fee applies to each transaction.
Verify the current commissary provider and instructions on the Houston County Sheriff website.
Houston County Jail personal mail rules
Houston County Jail has unusually specific personal-mail formatting rules, so check the Sheriff’s page before sending anything. The published policy says incoming personal mail is inspected for contraband and only certain letter formats are accepted.
Required identifying information
The incoming envelope must include the sender’s first and last name and complete address, along with the inmate number and pod location. The policy says nicknames are not accepted.
Items the published policy restricts
The Sheriff’s personal-mail page says no hand-delivered mail or packages are accepted and states that photographs and photocopies are not accepted with personal inmate mail.
Court clothing for a Houston County Jail inmate
The Sheriff publishes a separate court-appearance policy for inmates who need clothing for court. It says one set of court clothing may be accepted during the week before the court date, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
If the clothing must be brought during the week of trial, the Sheriff’s rule says it must come from the inmate’s attorney or a representative of the attorney’s office rather than the inmate’s family. Identification is required when clothing is delivered, and a receipt is issued.
Review the current court-appearance clothing policy before going to the jail.
If the person has moved from county jail to Alabama state custody
The Houston County Sheriff search is a county-jail tool. If a person has been sentenced and transferred into the Alabama Department of Corrections system, use the ADOC inmate search instead.
ADOC allows searches by Alabama Institutional Serial number or full name. The department notes that its online database contains currently incarcerated ADOC inmates rather than historical records.
What to do when you cannot find a Houston County booking
Allow time for booking information to reach the public system. If timing is important, call Houston County Jail at 334-712-0762.
Check admits and releases by date range. The person may already have been released or transferred.
Try the legal surname first and check alternate spelling carefully. Do not force a match based only on a similar photo.
Check the Dothan Police arrest section for city-side context, then return to the Sheriff inmate system for county custody.
Use the Houston County Circuit Clerk and Alabama court records. The booking entry itself does not establish disposition.
If county custody ended after sentencing or transfer, check Alabama DOC using the person’s name or AIS number when known.
