Find Raleigh Mugshots, Recent Arrest Records and Jail Bookings

Raleigh mugshot searches usually lead to several different records: a Wake County arrest entry and booking photo, a current jail-custody record, a Raleigh Police incident report, or a Wake County court case. Start with the source that matches the question you are trying to answer rather than relying on a copied mugshot gallery.

Arrest is not conviction. A booking photo, charge, arrest entry or jail record documents an arrest or custody event. Charges can later be changed, dismissed or resolved differently in court, so verify the court case before treating an arrest entry as the final outcome.

Which Raleigh Arrest Record Should You Search?

A Raleigh arrest can create records in several systems. The arrest-photo database, jail roster, police incident report and criminal court file answer different questions and can update at different times.

Booking photo

Use Wake County Bureau of Forensic Services. This is the county arrest-record route for Wake County arrests and booking-photo access when a photo is publicly available.

Current jail status

Use the Wake County Sheriff inmate inquiry. A historical arrest record does not prove that the person remains in custody today.

Raleigh incident

Use Raleigh Police Records when RPD created the report. The incident report is separate from the Wake County booking record.

Court outcome

Use North Carolina eCourts and Wake County court resources. Court records are the better route for filed charges, hearings, dispositions and official court copies.

Identity check: Raleigh and Wake County have many people with similar names. Compare more than a name or face. Arrest date, age, arresting agency, booking details and court identifiers help reduce wrong-person matches.

Wake County Mugshot Portal Update for 2026

The Wake County Bureau of Forensic Services currently states that the previously announced August 17, 2026 portal transition has been postponed. That means older articles saying online access definitely ended on that date are now outdated.

Online route

Portal remains the first place to try

The Bureau’s current disclaimer page still provides the public arrest-information route. Because access policies can change, read the notice on the official page each time you use it.

In-person fallback

Two public kiosks are available

The same notice says arrest information is also available from public kiosks at the John H. Baker Jr. Public Safety Center and the Wake County Detention Center.

Wake County arrest-information kiosk locations listed by the Bureau of Forensic Services
Location Address Access listed by the Bureau
John H. Baker Jr. Public Safety Center 330 S. Salisbury St., Raleigh, NC Main lobby; Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; closed on Wake County-approved holidays
Wake County Detention Center 3301 Hammond Rd., Raleigh, NC Zero level in front of the Magistrate’s office; lobby listed as open 24/7, including weekends and holidays

The Bureau lists 919-255-7369 for questions about the arrest-information access change. Confirm the latest portal notice before making a special trip.

How to Check Whether Someone Is in Wake County Jail Now

An old Raleigh mugshot can remain visible after someone has been released. When the actual question is whether a person is currently in local custody, use the Wake County Sheriff inmate inquiry rather than assuming an arrest-photo result represents today’s jail status.

Search broad, then narrow

Start with the last name when possible. If the result list is large, add the first name or other available filters. Check suffixes, hyphenated names and spelling variations when a likely record does not appear.

Confirm the matching person

Compare age or date-of-birth information when shown, arrest date, booking agency, primary charge, court date and other identifiers. Do not rely on one shared name.

Very recent arrest? Arrest, transport, intake, fingerprinting, photographing and public-system updates do not always happen simultaneously. A blank search immediately after an arrest is not conclusive.

How to Get a Raleigh Police Incident Report

If Raleigh Police handled the incident, the police report is a different document from the Wake County booking photo. Raleigh Police says its Records Division handles public requests for incident reports.

Email request

Police Records Division

Email police.records@raleighnc.gov. Raleigh Police asks requesters to include the report number when available and a phone number in case staff need to contact them.

Phone request

919-996-3325

Raleigh Police states that Records staff can help locate an incident report and email it to the requester.

Use the correct custodian. If another agency made the arrest or wrote the incident report, contact that agency rather than assuming Raleigh Police holds the record merely because the person was booked in Wake County.

Check the Wake County Court Case After an Arrest

A mugshot answers whether a booking photograph was associated with an arrest. It does not tell you whether the charge was dismissed, amended, continued, resolved by plea, tried, or resulted in another disposition.

North Carolina has completed statewide implementation of its eCourts/Odyssey case-management system. The Wake County Judicial Branch page provides court-date searches, local court information, criminal calendars, forms and courthouse resources.

Open the North Carolina court search route. Use the Judicial Branch’s eCourts and Wake County pages rather than a copied docket page.
Search by the strongest identifier available. Depending on the portal search, you may be able to use a party name, case number, citation number or hearing details.
Limit the search to Wake County where appropriate. This reduces unrelated matches from people with the same name elsewhere in North Carolina.
Compare the arrest and court details. Match the defendant name, charge context and case identifiers before assuming the court case belongs to the same person.
Use the Clerk for official copies. The eCourts public portal provides public case information, but the Judicial Branch directs people to the appropriate Clerk of Court for official court records and case-specific document questions.

What Raleigh Mugshot and Booking Record Fields Mean

Common arrest-record fields and what they do — and do not — prove
Field What it usually tells you What to verify next
Booking photo Image connected with an arrest or intake event. Confirm identity, arrest date and court case before drawing conclusions.
Arresting agency The agency associated with the arrest. Use that agency when you need the corresponding incident report.
Arrest date When the arrest event occurred or was recorded. Do not assume the person remains jailed.
Charge An alleged offense listed at the arrest or case stage. Check eCourts for filed charges and later disposition.
Bond A release-condition detail when publicly displayed. Confirm current conditions and any other holds before paying anyone.
Court date A scheduled court event when shown. Recheck through NC eCourts because schedules can change.

No Raleigh Mugshot or Jail Result? Check These Possibilities

Name does not match the record

Try the legal surname, middle-name variations, suffixes and hyphenation. A nickname may not match the booked name.

The arrest is too recent

Intake and public-data updates can take time. Recheck the official custody and arrest systems rather than assuming no booking occurred.

The person was released

A person can be arrested, booked and released before you search. The court case may still continue after release from custody.

You are using the wrong jurisdiction

If the arrest occurred outside Wake County, use the agency and county responsible for that arrest instead of the Raleigh/Wake systems.

The online photo is unavailable

Not every arrest necessarily produces a publicly accessible photo in the way a searcher expects. Use the official arrest, jail and court routes together.

The record was expunged or restricted

The Wake County arrest portal itself warns that some offenses may have been automatically expunged under North Carolina law and that its arrest history may be incomplete.

How to Avoid a Wrong-Person Raleigh Mugshot Match

Do not identify someone from a face or common name alone. A copied mugshot page can lack the later court outcome, and an older photograph can be recirculated long after the custody event ended.

  • Confirm the exact spelling of the booked name.
  • Compare age or date-of-birth details when lawfully displayed.
  • Match the arrest date and arresting agency.
  • Save the booking or case number when available.
  • Check Wake County court records for the later case status.
  • Do not describe an allegation as a conviction.
Screening warning: Arrest and mugshot information should not be treated as a consumer report for employment, housing, credit, insurance or other decisions regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Use an appropriate legally compliant screening process where required.

Raleigh Mugshots FAQs

Where can I search Raleigh mugshots officially?
Start with the Wake County Bureau of Forensic Services arrest-information portal. Raleigh is in Wake County, so the official arrest-photo route is countywide rather than a separate Raleigh-only mugshot gallery.
Can I still search Wake County mugshots online in 2026?
At the time this page was researched, yes. The Bureau of Forensic Services says the previously announced August 17, 2026 transition from internet access to fixed-site locations has been postponed. Check the official disclaimer page for the latest notice before searching.
How do I know if someone is still in Wake County jail?
Use the Wake County Sheriff inmate inquiry for current local custody. An arrest photo or historical arrest entry does not establish that the person remains jailed today.
Does a Raleigh mugshot mean the person was convicted?
No. A mugshot documents an arrest or booking event. Charges may be amended or dismissed, and the final legal outcome should be checked through the court record.
How do I get a Raleigh Police incident report?
Raleigh Police says you can email police.records@raleighnc.gov and include the report number if available plus a callback number, or call the Police Records Division at 919-996-3325.
Where do I check the court case after a Raleigh arrest?
Use North Carolina eCourts and the Judicial Branch’s Wake County page. Search using the strongest case identifier available and confirm that the defendant and case details match the arrest record.
Why can a recent Raleigh arrest be missing from a search?
Possible reasons include intake or data-entry timing, spelling differences, release before the search, a different jurisdiction, restricted records, or an incomplete arrest-history result. Recheck the appropriate official custody, arrest and court systems.
Are Wake County arrest records complete criminal histories?
No. The Bureau of Forensic Services warns that its portal reflects Wake County arrests known to the Bureau from April 27, 2007 forward and may not contain every arrest for an individual. It also notes that some offenses may have been automatically expunged.
Can I use a Raleigh mugshot for an employment or housing decision?
A mugshot or arrest page should not be treated as a consumer report. Employment, housing, credit, insurance and other regulated decisions can involve Fair Credit Reporting Act requirements and other laws.
Where are the Wake County public arrest-information kiosks?
The Bureau currently lists kiosks at the John H. Baker Jr. Public Safety Center, 330 S. Salisbury St., and the Wake County Detention Center, 3301 Hammond Rd., both in Raleigh.
