Find Montgomery County jail mugshots, recent arrests and booking records
For Montgomery County, Alabama, start with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office inmate system. The official portal provides separate routes for people currently in custody and for recent arrests, while the Sheriff’s Office says its jail information includes the inmate’s complete name, booking date, bond amount and charges.
Fastest official search route
Use the current-inmate list when you need to know whether someone appears to be in county custody now. Use the recent-arrests page when the arrest may have happened within the last few days.
The official recent-arrests portal describes its list as arrests occurring within the previous 96 hours. Records can change after release, transfer, bond, correction or later court action.
Jail data answers booking and custody questions. Court records are the better source for what happened to the criminal case afterward.
Choose what you need to find
Montgomery County current inmate search
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office provides an official Current Inmates route. Use it when your main question is whether someone appears to be housed in Montgomery County custody now.
Search with identifying details
Use the person’s full legal name when possible. If several people have similar names, compare any available age, booking date, booking number, charge or other identifying details before assuming a record belongs to the person you mean.
Save the booking information
If you find the correct record, note the booking number, booking date, listed charges and bond information. Those details make later jail or court follow-up easier and reduce the risk of mixing two people with similar names.
Recent Montgomery County arrests and booking photos
The Sheriff’s Office also operates a separate Recent Arrests page. The official portal says this list contains arrests that occurred within the last 96 hours.
This route is more useful than the current-inmate list when an arrest was very recent but the person may already have bonded out, been released or otherwise changed custody status.
How to search Montgomery County jail mugshots correctly
What Montgomery County booking records can tell you
The Sheriff’s Office says the list of people housed at the Mac Sim Butler Detention Facility includes the inmate’s complete name, booking date, bond amount and charges. A booking record therefore helps establish the county custody record at a particular point in time.
| Task | Best source | What it helps confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Check present county custody | Current Inmates | Whether a matching person appears in the current Sheriff’s Office inmate system. |
| Check a very recent booking | Recent Arrests | Arrests included within the Sheriff’s Office 96-hour recent-arrest window. |
| Review charge or bond details | Booking record | Charges and bond information associated with the booking entry. |
| Find case disposition | Montgomery County court system | Court proceedings, case status and later judicial action. |
Charges, bond amounts and release status
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office states that its jail information includes charges and bond amounts. These fields describe the booking record; they should not be read as a final judgment about the criminal case.
Use the wording shown in the official booking entry as a starting point. A later court filing may clarify, amend or replace the original charge.
Bond information can change after a hearing or other court action. Confirm current bond instructions before arranging payment or making travel plans.
If a person disappears from the current-inmate list, do not assume why. Release, transfer and other custody changes should be verified through the responsible agency.
Use the court record rather than the original booking page to determine later case events or disposition.
How to check the Montgomery County court case after an arrest
The Fifteenth Judicial Circuit Court of Alabama serves Montgomery County. Its Circuit Clerk maintains court records across criminal and other court divisions.
The District Criminal division handles misdemeanor matters occurring outside Montgomery city limits and is also where felony cases begin before grand-jury action. Circuit Criminal handles felony criminal matters and misdemeanor appeals from District Court and the City of Montgomery Municipal Court.
When the jail page is enough
If you only need to know whether someone appears in custody, the current-inmate portal is normally the quickest starting point.
When to use court records
Use court resources when you need hearing information, case progression, disposition or a record that goes beyond the original arrest and booking.

Montgomery County jail visitation
Montgomery County uses video visitation. The Sheriff’s Office says visits must be registered and scheduled through its designated video-visitation system at least one day in advance and no more than one week ahead. Only approved visitors are allowed, with no more than four visitors per inmate.

How to send mail to a Montgomery County inmate
The Sheriff’s Office requires non-privileged incoming mail to include a full return address and to identify the inmate by full name and booking number. Incorrectly labeled mail can be returned to the sender.
Mailing format
Inmate Full Name
Booking # — MCDF
P.O. Box 4599
Montgomery, AL 36103
The Sheriff’s Office also publishes restrictions for publications and other incoming items. Review the current Inmate Contact Information page before sending anything beyond ordinary correspondence.
Montgomery County warrant information
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Office maintains arrest warrants issued by the county’s Circuit Courts, District Courts and Grand Jury. The Sheriff’s Office says its records-management system is updated as warrants are issued, recalled or served.
A jail booking and an outstanding warrant are not the same record. Someone can have an arrest record without a current warrant, and warrant information may change when a warrant is served or recalled.
Older arrest records and identification questions
The Sheriff’s Office Records and Identification Office handles local arrest-history and identification functions. Its official page says local background checks from that office list arrests on file at the Montgomery County Detention Facility, regardless of the later outcome of the case.
That distinction matters: the Sheriff’s Office itself directs people who need a disposition on a charge to obtain case-summary information from the Montgomery County Circuit Clerk rather than treating the arrest record as the final case result.
Records & Identification Office
100 South Lawrence StreetMontgomery, AL 36104
The Sheriff’s Office lists office hours of 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday for its background-check service.
Wrong-person arrest record
The Sheriff’s Office says arrest records in this office are verified using fingerprints taken at booking. Its Identification section describes a fingerprint-comparison process for a person disputing an arrest record that is not theirs.
If you cannot find the booking record
Check the Recent Arrests route. The person may have been released or may no longer appear in the current-inmate list.
Do not expect the 96-hour recent-arrest page to function as a permanent archive. Use Sheriff’s Office records and court resources for older matters.
Compare booking number, booking date, age or other available identifiers. Do not identify someone from a name or photo alone.
Move from the jail record to the Montgomery County court system. The arrest record does not establish how the case ended.
Contact the Sheriff’s Office Records and Identification section rather than relying on a private data broker or mugshot site.
Use the Sheriff’s Office jail, records or contact pages and verify current information directly with the agency.
What to verify before relying on a Montgomery County mugshot
- Confirm that you are looking at Montgomery County, Alabama, not another Montgomery County.
- Match more than the person’s name whenever possible.
- Check whether the record is current custody, a recent arrest or an older arrest record.
- Read the listed charge as an accusation associated with the booking, not a conviction.
- Use the court record for disposition and later case activity.
- Recheck bond, custody and warrant details because they can change.
- Use official government records for important legal or personal decisions.
