Chattanooga Mugshots, Booking Photos and Arrest Information
For Chattanooga arrests, start with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. Its official tools include a date-based booking report system, a current inmate search by last name or SPN, and a separate open-warrant database.
The Hamilton County Jail & Detention Center is the county intake point for arrestees from Chattanooga and other Hamilton County law-enforcement agencies. A booking entry can help you identify an arrest, while the inmate search is better for checking whether someone is currently housed in the jail.
Use the official Hamilton County search tools
Search the jail roster when you need current custody information. Use Booking Reports when you know the approximate arrest date or want to review recent intake records.
These links go to Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office systems. CountyJailMugshots.org is an independent information guide and does not operate the databases.
Use more than one official system when you need to distinguish an arrest record from current custody or a later court result.
How Chattanooga Booking Reports Work
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office publishes a Booking Reports tool that lets visitors choose a date and review corrections booking activity. This is usually the most direct official route when you are trying to identify a recent Chattanooga arrest.
Search the Current Hamilton County Inmate List
The official HCSO inmate tool allows searches by last name or SPN number and also provides a full inmate list. An SPN is especially useful when several people have similar names because it gives you a record-specific identifier.
Search by last name
Use the spelling shown on official records. If a search returns several people, compare available profile details instead of relying on the name alone.
Search by SPN
If you already have the six-digit SPN from another Hamilton County jail record, use it to narrow the search more reliably.
Individual inmate records may display a booking image together with custody-related information such as bond, judge, division or court date when that information is available in the system.
Where Chattanooga Mugshots and Arrest Photos Appear
Hamilton County’s corrections system captures a mug shot as part of the booking process. The Sheriff’s Office explains that even citation-in-lieu-of-arrest processing can include fingerprints, a mug shot and entry of the person’s information into the arrest system.
For normal public searches, the most useful route is the HCSO inmate or booking system. Availability can vary by record, and older or expunged material may not remain visible in the same way as an active record.
What happens after an expungement?
HCSO states that court-ordered expungements are processed by its Records Unit and that, once the process is completed, the mugshot is removed from the Sheriff’s Office system. The Sheriff’s Office also notes that this does not remove copies previously published by private third parties or news organizations.
How to Check Charges, Court Dates and Case Outcomes
After finding a Chattanooga booking, use Hamilton County court records for the next stage. The Criminal Court Clerk maintains records for Criminal Court and the criminal division of General Sessions Court.
General Sessions Criminal Court handles misdemeanor criminal cases and traffic matters and conducts preliminary proceedings in felony cases before they may be bound over to the grand jury.
Hamilton County Criminal Court handles felony and misdemeanor matters that reach that court after indictment, presentment, information or appeal.
Hamilton County publishes Sessions Criminal and Criminal Court dockets online, but the county warns that online docket copies are informational and later changes may appear only on the original court record.

Bond Information After a Chattanooga Arrest
The HCSO inmate record may show a bond amount when one has been set. Bond is not the same as a fine and does not decide guilt; it concerns release conditions while a criminal case is pending.
The Sheriff’s Office states that cash bonds can be paid at the Hamilton County Courts Building, 600 Market Street in Chattanooga, through the Criminal Court Clerk’s Office. If using a bonding company, HCSO says the company must be accepted and verified by the Criminal Court Clerk’s Office.
- Confirm the person’s exact inmate record and SPN first.
- Check whether a bond amount has actually been entered.
- Confirm the court and case before paying anyone.
- Use the Criminal Court Clerk for official payment questions.
- Do not send money to an unofficial requester claiming a bond is due.
Search Chattanooga and Hamilton County Open Warrants
HCSO operates a separate Open Warrants database. It supports searches by first name, last name, warrant number or partial address and also offers a full list of open warrants.
The Sheriff’s Office says the warrant database is updated daily at 4:00 p.m., is based on information supplied by the Hamilton County court system and may not immediately reflect a recently resolved warrant. Warrants issued before January 1, 2008 are not shown in the online tool.

Personal visitation
Hamilton County says the jail does not offer face-to-face personal visits. Friends and family use video visitation through GettingOut. Remote smartphone visits may involve a fee, while onsite Viapath terminals are available without a visit fee.
For account approval, visitors must provide government-issued identification with a matching first and last name, submit a verification headshot, be at least 18 years old and have been free from incarceration for at least six months.
Sending personal mail
Personal mail and packages are no longer accepted directly at the Chattanooga jail. HCSO says non-legal mail is scanned at an offsite processing facility and then provided to the inmate electronically.

Legal mail
Legal mail follows a different process and is sent to the physical jail address at 601 Justice Way, Chattanooga, TN 37421. HCSO says staff open incoming legal mail in front of the inmate, make copies and then destroy the originals under the facility’s current procedure.
Commissary and inmate deposits
Hamilton County uses Tennessee Business Enterprises for commissary. Friends and family can place money in an inmate account at the jail lobby kiosk with cash, debit or credit card, or use CorrectPay online. Phone-account deposits are handled through GettingOut.
HCSO currently lists commissary ordering from noon Thursday until 10:30 p.m. Saturday, with deliveries on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Because jail procedures can change, verify the schedule on the Sheriff’s Corrections page before sending money for a specific ordering cycle.
Inmate property pickup
Property release is by appointment. HCSO directs people to call 423-209-7042 to schedule pickup and recommends confirming first that the Sheriff’s Office actually has the property because multiple law-enforcement agencies operate in Hamilton County.
Custody and Victim Notifications Through VINE
VINE provides notification options for people who need updates about offender custody or case-related changes. Hamilton County links to VINE from its Corrections Services page, and Tennessee Department of Correction also uses VINE for felony offenders in state custody.
For a person who has moved from county custody into the Tennessee Department of Correction system, TDOC’s offender search can provide state-level status, location, offense, sentence and release information when available.

What to Do When You Cannot Find a Chattanooga Booking
The person may already have been released, transferred, booked under a different spelling, or never housed in the jail. Check date-based booking reports and then the court system.
Not every public-facing result will necessarily expose every booking field. Use the official record for the arrest information that is available instead of assuming a missing photo means no booking occurred.
Booking charges capture an early stage of a case. Check the Criminal Court Clerk for later court filings, dates and dispositions.
Compare SPN, age or date of birth, booking date and court information. Never identify someone solely from a common first and last name.
If a Hamilton County charge was expunged, HCSO says its Records Unit removes the mugshot from the Sheriff’s system after processing the court order. Private websites may require a separate correction or removal request.
