Find Arizona Booking Records and Mugshot Availability by County

Arizona does not operate one statewide database for every recent county-jail booking photo. For a recent arrest, start with the sheriff or detention agency for the county where the person was booked; use the Arizona Department of Corrections search only when the person is in state-prison custody.

A booking record is not a conviction. An arrest, charge, jail entry or booking photograph shows that a person entered the criminal-justice process at a particular point in time. Charges can be changed, dismissed or resolved later, so verify the court case before drawing conclusions.
Fastest route

Start with the county, not a statewide mugshot website

If the arrest was recent, identify the county first. County sheriff and detention systems are normally the most useful source for current jail custody, booking numbers, charges and—where the agency still makes them public—booking photographs.

If no mugshot appears

Do not assume that no arrest or booking exists. Several Arizona agencies have changed or limited public online mugshot and inmate-search practices. Use the agency’s current jail-information or records-request route instead.

A photo alone is not enough: match the booking identity, then verify the associated court record and current custody status.

Arizona Mugshots: What You Can Actually Search

County jail

Recent bookings

People arrested by city police, sheriff’s deputies or other local agencies may be booked into a county detention facility. Search the responsible county’s current inmate or jail system first.

State custody

ADCRR records

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry maintains its own inmate data system for people in state correctional custody. It is not a replacement for county booking searches.

Case outcome

Court records

A booking page may show the arrest-stage charge, but the court file is the better source for later filings, hearings and case status. Always separate a booking allegation from a final disposition.

There is no dependable “one search covers Arizona” shortcut. County jails, the state prison system and Arizona courts maintain different records for different parts of the process.

How to Search Arizona Arrest and Booking Records

Identify the county of booking. Use the arrest location, police agency, jail name or court location. A Phoenix-area booking will often lead to Maricopa County, while Tucson-area jail custody commonly leads to Pima County.
Open the official sheriff or detention site. Look for “Inmate Search,” “Inmate Lookup,” “Current Inmates,” “Jail Roster,” “Booking” or a similar official service. Avoid treating third-party mugshot aggregators as authoritative.
Search with the strongest identifier available. A full legal name plus date of birth, age, booking number, subject number or inmate ID is safer than matching a person by name or photo alone.
Record the booking details. Note the booking number, arrest or booking date, listed charges, bond information, agency and case number if shown. These details help you find the correct court record.
Check the Arizona court case. Search the Arizona Judicial Branch Public Access system or the relevant clerk’s records to see what happened after booking.
Verify current custody separately. A historical booking does not prove that the person is still in jail. Recheck the current inmate system or contact the detention facility when timing matters.

Why Arizona Booking Photos Are Not Available Everywhere

Arizona booking-photo access changed materially after the Ninth Circuit’s 2024 decision in Houston v. County of Maricopa, a case involving Maricopa County’s online publication of arrestee photographs and identifying information. Since then, multiple Arizona agencies have changed, paused or discontinued public-facing mugshot and inmate-list functions.

Pinal County

Pinal County currently says its public mugshot and inmate-search functions are paused until further notice. The county provides a jail inmate-information phone number instead.

Mohave County

Mohave County says its online inmate-search tool has been turned off and currently directs visitors to sheriff press releases for inmate lists.

Cochise County

Cochise County announced that it would no longer post its Mugshot and Inmate List online, and that booking photographs would no longer accompany its social-media or press releases.

Other counties

Policies differ. A county may provide current inmate data without a photo, publish only selected arrest information, require a records request, or change its online access later.

Do not treat photo availability as evidence. The absence of a publicly posted mugshot does not mean an arrest did not occur, and the existence of a booking photo does not establish guilt.

Arizona State Prison Inmate Search

If the person has moved from county jail into Arizona state correctional custody, use the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry rather than continuing to search county booking systems.

Official state route

ADCRR Inmate Data Search

The department’s inmate data service is the correct statewide route for state-prison inmate information.

Release dates need caution. ADCRR states that release dates and release types shown through its inmate search have not been verified or audited by the department and can change. For offense details, ADCRR directs users to the court file where the case was adjudicated.

Check Arizona Court Records After Finding a Booking

A jail record captures a booking stage. To understand what happened afterward, use the court system. Search with the name and, when available, the case number taken from the booking record.

Case information

Arizona Judicial Branch Public Access Case Lookup provides online case information from most participating Arizona courts. The Judicial Branch currently says the service includes 177 of 184 courts.

Superior Court documents

Arizona eAccess provides online access to qualifying Superior Court civil and criminal case records and documents. Some records are excluded because they are sealed, confidential or otherwise restricted.

Missing online case

Contact the clerk of the court where the case was filed. A case or document that is not remotely available may still be available from the appropriate clerk if it is a public record.

Booking charge versus court charge: The wording on a jail booking page can differ from the charge ultimately filed or resolved in court. Use the court record for the later procedural history.

How to Request an Older Arizona Arrest or Jail Record

Arizona Revised Statutes § 39-121 provides public access to public records in the custody of public officers during office hours, but that does not mean every law-enforcement record or image must be released online. Confidentiality rules, court orders and other legal restrictions can affect access.

Prepare these details before contacting a records unit

  • Full legal name used at booking
  • Date of birth or approximate age, when appropriate
  • Booking or inmate number, if known
  • Approximate arrest or booking date
  • Arresting agency
  • County and jail facility
  • Incident or report number, if known
  • Specific record requested rather than a vague request for “everything”
Useful approach: If an online jail roster no longer shows the person, ask the relevant sheriff, police department or detention records unit what public records remain available and how that agency accepts requests.

Verify the Person Before You Rely on an Arizona Mugshot Record

Common names create real identification risks. Never identify someone from a face or name alone when a booking record can be checked against stronger identifiers.

Strong identifiers

  • Booking number
  • Inmate or subject number
  • Date of birth or age
  • Booking date
  • County and detention facility
  • Court case number

Weak identifiers

  • A similar-looking photograph
  • A common first and last name
  • An old social-media post
  • A third-party mugshot page without current official confirmation
  • A search-engine snippet that may be stale
If the record will affect an important decision, verify it at the source. This site is not a consumer reporting agency and should not be used for employment, housing, credit, insurance or other regulated eligibility decisions.

Arrest, Booking, Charge and Conviction Are Different Records

Arrest

A law-enforcement action that may lead to booking. An arrest by itself is not a conviction.

Booking

The jail’s intake process. A booking record may contain a booking number, custody information, listed charges and other intake details.

Filed charge

A prosecutor or court record may later show charges that differ from the arrest-stage description.

Disposition

The later court outcome, such as dismissal, conviction, acquittal or another case resolution. Check the actual court record rather than inferring an outcome from a mugshot.

Arizona Mugshot Search Problems and What to Do

No result for a recent arrest

The booking may still be processing, the person may be held in another county, or the agency may not expose a public online roster. Confirm the arresting agency and contact the jail if necessary.

The county search was removed

Use the current sheriff or detention page. Some Arizona counties explicitly replaced or disabled older public mugshot and inmate-search tools.

The inmate disappeared from the roster

Current-inmate searches may stop showing a person after release or transfer. Use the records unit or court system when you need historical information.

The name matches but details do not

Stop and verify stronger identifiers. Do not merge records belonging to different people simply because the names are similar.

The charge changed

A booking entry can reflect the initial arrest-stage information. Check the court docket for later charging decisions and the eventual case status.

A third-party page is outdated

Return to the responsible county agency and the court of record. Search-engine and aggregator pages can remain online after official information changes.

Arizona Mugshots and Arrest Records FAQ

Where can I find recent Arizona mugshots?

Start with the sheriff or detention agency for the county where the arrest was booked. Arizona does not provide one statewide county-jail mugshot search, and some counties no longer publish booking photos online.

Is there one Arizona mugshot database for every county?

No. County jail records are maintained locally, while state-prison records are handled by the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry.

Why did some Arizona mugshot searches disappear?

Several Arizona agencies changed or paused public mugshot and inmate-search practices after the 2024 Ninth Circuit decision in Houston v. County of Maricopa. Current availability therefore differs by county.

Does Pinal County still have a public mugshot search?

Pinal County’s current official notice says its public mugshot and inmate-search functions are paused until further notice. It directs public inmate inquiries to 520-213-8553.

Can I search Mohave County inmates online?

Mohave County currently states that its online inmate-search tool has been turned off. The county directs users to sheriff press releases and provides jail information by phone.

Where do I search Arizona state prisoners?

Use the Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry Inmate Data Search. County jail tools are primarily for local detention rather than state-prison custody.

How do I find what happened after an Arizona arrest?

Use the booking details to search the Arizona Judicial Branch Public Access Case Lookup or the clerk of the court where the case was filed. Court records are the better source for later case activity and disposition.

Does an Arizona mugshot mean the person was convicted?

No. A mugshot is normally created during the booking process. It does not prove guilt or show the eventual outcome of the criminal case.

How can I find an old Arizona booking that is no longer in the jail roster?

Contact the responsible sheriff, detention facility or law-enforcement records unit and ask about its public-records request process. Historical custody information may not remain in a current-inmate search.

How do I avoid confusing two people with the same name?

Compare multiple identifiers such as booking number, inmate ID, age or date of birth, booking date, county, facility and court case number. Never rely on a name or photograph alone.
