Search Arrest, Mugshot & Inmate Records by Name
Search by name and state for arrest, booking, mugshot, inmate, jail roster, prison, criminal and court-record search categories.
Independent records-search resource. This website is not a government agency, police department, sheriff's office, jail, prison or courthouse. Search coverage varies by source and jurisdiction. Find Recent Topeka Mugshots, Bookings and Jail Records
For a recent Topeka arrest, start with the Shawnee County Department of Corrections inmate search. The county system covers people currently in Department of Corrections custody and provides separate daily booking-report and archive routes for recent bookings.
A booking photo, arrest entry or jail charge is not proof of guilt. Use the booking record to identify the correct person, then check the appropriate court record for filed charges, hearings and the eventual case outcome.
Start with the official Shawnee County jail search
The inmate portal requires a last name and lets you narrow a search with a first name or birth date. The county labels its current-custody search as updated hourly and its Daily Booking Report as updated daily.
Jail data answers the custody question; court data answers what happened in the criminal case.
How to Search the Topeka Jail Roster
Topeka is in Shawnee County, and the county Department of Corrections operates the Adult Detention Center. The official inmate search is therefore the primary local source for checking whether someone arrested in the area remains in county custody.
Recent Topeka Arrests and Daily Booking Reports
The inmate-search page includes a Daily Booking Report and Daily Booking Archive. These are better routes when the goal is to confirm a recent booking rather than determine who remains in custody right now.
Current inmate search
Best for determining whether a person remains in county custody. The county labels this search as updated hourly.
Daily booking report
Best for a recent intake event. Reports can show booking details even when custody later changes.
Booking archive
Use this when the arrest happened on an earlier date and the person no longer appears in the live roster.
Court search
Use the court record to follow a case beyond intake, including filings, hearings and disposition information when publicly available.
The county portal requires acceptance of its terms before the booking-report tools become available.
Where Topeka Booking Photos and Mugshots Come From
Booking photographs are created during the jail intake process and may appear with Shawnee County booking information when the county makes them available. Availability can vary by record, report and custody status, so the lack of a public image does not mean an arrest or booking did not occur.
Use more than the photograph
- Confirm the person’s full legal name.
- Compare the date of birth when available.
- Check the booking number and booking date.
- Note the arresting or holding agency.
- Match any warrant or case number to the court record.
- Check whether a release date is shown.
How to Read Charges, Warrants and Bond Information
A Shawnee County booking entry can contain a warrant or charge description, bond amount, bond type and sometimes a court date. Treat those fields as booking-stage information and verify later changes through the court.
| Route | Best for | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| CA | Cash bond | The county FAQ says the full bond amount is paid in cash at the Adult Detention Center booking public-access window. |
| PS | Professional surety | The county directs the payer to contact a bondsman. |
| ORC / ORCD / CS | Recognizance or cash-deposit arrangements | The county FAQ states that these bond types require ten percent of the bond amount in cash at the booking public-access window. |
| WS | With surety | The county notes that a judge may in some cases allow a family member to sign, and a professional bond can also satisfy this type. |
Check the Court Record After a Topeka Arrest
Jail and court systems answer different questions. The jail can tell you about booking and custody; the court record is where you follow filed charges, hearing dates, orders and the case outcome.
Use the Third Judicial District website for Shawnee County District Court resources, including court-record search links, dockets and Clerk information.
The Kansas Judicial Branch public portal supports district-court case searching. Current guidance says users register before performing Smart Search and search by a record number or name.
For a City of Topeka municipal matter, use the city’s Municipal Court public access portal. It supports searches by party name, citation number or court case number.

The Department of Corrections, rather than the Sheriff’s Office, operates Shawnee County’s adult detention facilities. This matters when you are trying to confirm current custody, visitation, inmate funds, mail or jail property procedures.
Visitation for an Adult Inmate
Shawnee County moved adult inmate communications to Smart Communications beginning January 21, 2025. The county says off-site or remote visits are available and that visitors use either an on-site kiosk or the vendor’s website to schedule.
Before scheduling
- Confirm the person is still in Shawnee County custody.
- Review the current visitation instructions on the DOC website.
- Complete any required visitor or vendor account setup.
- Check the current visit type and scheduling requirements.
Visitor rules
The county publishes identification, clothing and property restrictions for visitors. Professional and specially approved visits follow separate procedures.
Inmate Money, Mail and Property
Adding money to an inmate account
The county allows Adult Detention Center inmate funds to be added through a kiosk at the Annex front lobby or through its linked TouchPay service. The DOC also lists the types of checks and money orders it will accept and warns that cash sent through the mail is not deposited into the inmate’s personal account.
Personal mail
The DOC FAQ directs ordinary personal mail through the Smart Communications/Shawnee County Jail mailing route. Legal mail and certain approved correspondence use the detention-center address instead. Check the current county instructions before sending anything because mail rules can change.
Property release
Shawnee County limits what an inmate can release while detained and requires prior approval for certain property. The county FAQ also explains pickup procedures when an inmate is transferred to another facility.
How to Request Topeka or Shawnee County Arrest Records
A jail roster and an incident report are not the same record. If you need a police or sheriff report, use the agency that created the record rather than asking the detention center for every document connected with the arrest.
The Sheriff’s Office provides a records-request form and asks for details such as case number, incident type, date, time, location, responding agency, requested records and purpose. Requests can be submitted by mail, fax or email.
The County Clerk explains the Kansas Open Records Act process for existing county records. The county may charge reasonable fees and can withhold records when a statutory exception applies.
Court records are handled by the court, not by the Shawnee County Clerk’s KORA process. Use the Shawnee County District Court or the appropriate municipal court instead.
Get Custody Status Alerts Through Kansas VINE
The Shawnee County inmate-search page links to the Kansas VINE system for crime victims and others who need custody information and notification of custody-status changes.
Use the VINE option linked from the official Shawnee County inmate-search page for current registration and notification instructions.
VINE is useful for alerts, but a notification service is not a replacement for checking the actual court docket when you need the status of the criminal case.
What to Do When You Cannot Find a Topeka Booking
The arrest was very recent
Recheck the official inmate search after an update cycle. Intake, identity verification and data entry can take time.
The person was released
Use the Daily Booking Report or archive. The live search is designed around current custody.
The name is common
Add the first name and birth date. Compare the booking number, date, agency and case identifiers before deciding you found the right person.
The case is municipal
Check Topeka Municipal Court instead of assuming every city arrest will appear as a Shawnee County District Court case.
The person was transferred
A transfer can end the local custody listing. Use court records and the receiving agency’s official inmate locator when the destination is known.
You need the incident report
Request it from the law-enforcement agency that created the record. Jail booking data is not a substitute for the full incident or investigative file.
