Sacramento County Jail Mugshots, Recent Arrests & Booking Records
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office provides the primary public inmate-information system for checking recent bookings and people currently in county custody. You can search by name or X-Reference number, and the Sheriff also provides a recent-bookings route.
If your goal is specifically to obtain a mugshot, do not assume a booking search will provide one. The Sheriff’s current public-record guidance states that mugshot requests made through the California Public Records Act are not releasable through that process.
Search the official Sacramento County inmate system first
Use the Sheriff’s own lookup before relying on third-party mugshot or arrest websites. For the strongest identity match, compare the person’s full name, X-Reference number, booking information and custody status.
Treat a booking record as the starting point, not the final criminal-case outcome.
How to Search Sacramento County Recent Arrests
The Sacramento County Sheriff inmate-information system is the most direct place to check whether someone is currently in county custody. The public search supports a first-and-last-name lookup and an X-Reference number lookup.
Best when you know the person’s first and last name but do not have an X-Reference number. Open official name search.
Use this when the unique Sacramento County X-Reference number is already known. Open X-Reference search.
The Sheriff also provides a recent-booking route for users trying to find people booked during a recent period. Open recent bookings.
Can You Get Sacramento County Jail Mugshots Online?
People searching for “Sacramento County jail mugshots” often expect the same thing as an inmate roster. They are not necessarily the same record. The Sheriff’s inmate system is designed for custody and booking information, while access to a booking photograph is subject to separate rules.
This means you should not pay an unofficial website simply because it claims to have a “current Sacramento mugshot.” First verify the person and the arrest through the official Sheriff system. A third-party photo can be old, associated with another arrest, mislabeled or disconnected from the person’s current custody status.
Need current custody information?
Use the Sheriff inmate search. It is the appropriate route for checking whether the person is currently housed in Sacramento County custody and for reviewing available booking information.
Need a criminal case outcome?
Use Sacramento Superior Court. A jail record cannot tell you the complete later court disposition simply because a charge appeared at booking.
What Sacramento County Booking Information Means
The Sheriff notes that charges displayed for arrested or in-custody people represent the most recent information known to the department and may change as the individual moves through the judicial process. That distinction matters when a booking record is being compared with a later court case.
| Record detail | What it helps confirm | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Full name | Whether the search result may relate to the person you are looking for. | Identity by itself when multiple people have similar names. |
| X-Reference number | A unique identifier used in the Sacramento County public-safety system. | The outcome of a criminal prosecution. |
| Booking or custody data | That a person was booked or is currently held, depending on the record shown. | That the person was convicted. |
| Charge information | The charge information known to the Sheriff at that point in the process. | That the charge remained unchanged or resulted in guilt. |
| Release information | Whether custody ended and the available release date/time information. | Why the case ended or what happened later in court. |

How to Check a Sacramento County Criminal Case After Booking
Jail information and court information answer different questions. The jail system is useful for booking and custody status; Sacramento Superior Court is the better source for court case information, hearings and later case developments.
Sacramento Superior Court launched its newer criminal case-management system on August 10, 2026. The public criminal portal provides read-only access to some criminal case data and supports searches using party names or a case number.
Use the court’s criminal search and enter the last name and first name or supported partial-name criteria.
Search directly with the case number when it is available. This is usually a stronger match than relying on a name alone.
The criminal portal also provides public hearing-calendar access for available courtroom information.
Main Jail Visitation: What to Check Before You Go

Money, Mail, Phone and Health Information
Deposit money
The Sheriff uses TouchPay for electronic inmate-account deposits. For Main Jail deposits, the official instructions list facility location number 257501 and require the inmate’s name and X-Reference number.
Cash, credit-card and debit-card options are available through specified TouchPay channels, and transaction fees may apply.
Send mail
Sacramento County uses specific mail-processing rules. General U.S. mail is processed through the Securus Digital Mail Center rather than simply being mailed to an inmate’s housing unit.
Always verify the current mailing address and include the incarcerated person’s name and X-Reference number exactly as the Sheriff instructs.
Inmate phone service
The Sheriff’s RCCC information identifies Securus Technologies for inmate phone support and lists 1-800-844-6591.
Confirm the person’s current housing location before troubleshooting phone access.
Medical or mental-health concern
Sacramento County Adult Correctional Health provides an Inmate Patient Care contact route for families, attorneys and others who need to alert staff to a physical or behavioral-health concern.
Patient Care: 916-875-9782, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Release, Bail, Property and Custody Notifications
Bail and arrest information
The Sheriff directs people seeking information about an arrest to the Main Jail at 916-874-6752. Staff can provide available information about charges and whether the person may be released on bail, cited, released on their own recognizance or held under another status.
Property release
Main Jail property release requires a release form. The Sheriff warns that processing can take approximately one to three hours depending on staff duties and jail activity.
RCCC scheduled release pickup
The RCCC page instructs people picking someone up on a scheduled release date to report to the gatehouse between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. People without a ride may be transported for release at the Main Jail in downtown Sacramento.
SIRENS release notifications
The Sheriff’s Inmate Release Elective Notification System allows victims and other concerned people to register for custody-status notifications. Registration is available from the inmate’s custody-information page or through the jail.
Why You May Not Find a Sacramento County Booking Record
Check spelling and try the person’s full legal first and last name. If you know the X-Reference number, use the dedicated X-Ref search instead.
Booking information may not appear the instant an arrest occurs. Recheck the official system or contact the Main Jail information line if immediate confirmation is necessary.
The Sheriff limits the detailed information displayed after a person leaves custody. Release date and time information may remain even though the fuller in-custody record no longer appears.
An arrest inside the Sacramento region does not always mean the person is currently held by Sacramento County. Transfers, state custody and another agency’s jurisdiction can change where the record appears.
Move from the Sheriff booking record to Sacramento Superior Court. Jail information is not a substitute for the later court record.
Do not treat the inmate lookup as a guaranteed booking-photo database. The Sheriff currently states that mugshot requests are not releasable through its Public Records Act process.
