Search Arrest, Mugshot & Inmate Records by Name
Search by name and state for arrest, booking, mugshot, inmate, jail roster, prison, criminal and court-record search categories.

How to Find Recent Bismarck Arrests, Mugshots and Jail Records
If you are trying to find someone who was recently arrested in Bismarck, the fastest starting point is the official Burleigh/Morton Detention Center current-inmate search. If the person has already been released, use Bismarck Police or Burleigh County Sheriff’s records for the law-enforcement record and North Dakota Courts Records Inquiry for the criminal case.
Official information and service details on this page were checked on October 24, 2026. Jail status, court records, fees and agency procedures can change, so use the linked government sources for time-sensitive decisions.
Start with the record that answers your question
Different agencies hold different parts of an arrest. A jail roster answers a custody question. Police and sheriff records describe the law-enforcement incident. Court records show the case after filing.
Which Official Source Should You Use?
A search for “Bismarck mugshots” often mixes several different records together. The right source depends on whether you need current custody, a booking photograph, the arrest report, the criminal case, or a formal statewide criminal-history record.
Use the Burleigh/Morton Detention Center and select its current-inmate search.
Use the Bismarck Police Department Records Section when BPD created the report.
Use the Sheriff’s Department Records Request page when the Sheriff’s Department owns the record.
Use North Dakota Courts Records Inquiry and open the complete case record.
Use the North Dakota DOCR Resident Lookup if the person is currently incarcerated in a qualifying state correctional facility.
How to Check Recent Bismarck Arrests and Current Inmates
Burleigh County’s official detention-center page links to a system labeled “Search Current Burleigh County Detention Center Inmates.” That wording matters: it is primarily a current-custody tool, not a complete historical archive of everyone arrested in Bismarck.
Where to Find Bismarck Mugshots and Booking Photos
For a recent Bismarck arrest, start with the county-linked current inmate search. A booking photograph may be displayed with an inmate record when the current public system makes that image available, but photo availability should not be assumed for every person or every record.
Check the current inmate profile first
Use the detention-center route and open the inmate’s current record. This is the most direct place to check whether public booking information is presently available.
Use agency records and the court case
A current roster may stop showing a person after release. Ask the arresting agency about the releasable record and use the court system to follow the case.
Do not treat a third-party mugshot page as a complete criminal record. Older pages can remain online after release, charge changes, dismissal or another court disposition. When identity or outcome matters, confirm the person using official identifiers and read the current court record.
How to Get a Bismarck Police Arrest or Incident Report
If Bismarck Police handled the incident, the Police Department’s Reception/Records Section is the correct place to ask about a releasable report. The Records Section is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding holidays.
Bismarck Police Department
Address: 700 S. 9th St., Bismarck, ND 58504
Phone: 701-223-1212
Records: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
What to have ready
- Person’s full name
- Approximate incident or arrest date
- Location of the incident
- Case or report number, if known
- Your contact information if Records needs clarification
Bismarck Police report-copy fees
The city’s current report information lists a $7 accident-report copy fee. For a criminal report, the first 10 copied pages are listed with no copying fee and additional pages are $0.25 per page. The city’s 2026 police fee schedule also lists labor charges after the first hour for locating or redacting records, so ask Records for the expected total when the request is large.
How to Request a Burleigh County Sheriff’s Record
If the Burleigh County Sheriff’s Department created the record, use the Sheriff’s records process instead of sending the request to Bismarck Police. The county currently accepts records requests by email through its official Records Request page.
Burleigh County Sheriff’s Department
Address: 514 E. Thayer Ave., Bismarck, ND 58501
Phone: 701-222-6651
Records request email: tnichols@burleighsd.com
The detention center can house people arrested by different agencies. Being booked at the Burleigh/Morton Detention Center does not automatically mean the Burleigh County Sheriff’s Department wrote the incident report. Check the arresting agency before requesting records.
How to Search Bismarck Criminal Court Records
For the status of a criminal case, use North Dakota Courts Records Inquiry. The public system states that its data is current through the end of the previous business day.
Burleigh County District Court
Address: 514 E. Thayer Ave., Bismarck, ND 58501
Clerk: 701-222-6690 ext. 1

How Bond Works for a Bismarck Municipal Court Charge
Bismarck’s official criminal-procedures page states that bail for a Municipal Court charge may be posted by paying the full bail amount to Municipal Court or at the Burleigh/Morton Detention Center. During Municipal Court office hours, a person posting bond for someone held on a Municipal Court charge can use the court.

If the Person Is Still in the Burleigh/Morton Detention Center
Once you confirm custody, the next question may be visitation, money, phone time or a message. The county publishes these services on the detention-center page.
| Need | Current guidance | Important detail |
|---|---|---|
| Visitation | Tuesday and Thursday, except holidays, 1:00-4:00 p.m. | One 20-minute visit per eligible inmate per visitation day; maximum two visitors; photo ID required. |
| Reserve a visit | Call 701-255-3113 the day before or day of the visit. | Advance scheduling is not required, but a time slot can be reserved. |
| Leave a message | Call 701-354-3292. | This is the inmate message line published by the county. |
| Phone time | Reliance Telephone, 1-800-896-3201. | The county states that detention-center phone time is purchased through Reliance. |
| Inmate money | Lobby self-service kiosk is available. | The county FAQ also lists JailATM and mailed money order/cashier’s check options. |
| Mail must be mailed to the facility. | No inmate messages are accepted over the public counter as mail. |
When You Need an Official North Dakota Criminal-History Check
A search for Bismarck mugshots is not the same as requesting an official North Dakota criminal-history record. If you need the state’s formal record-check process, use the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation rather than assembling screenshots from jail and court websites.
BCI requires its record-request process and identifying information about the subject. The Attorney General’s instructions distinguish name-based searches from fingerprint-based searches: a name-only search can miss a record created under another name, while fingerprints provide stronger identity matching.

Why Someone May Not Appear in a Bismarck Inmate Search
A missing current-inmate result does not always mean the arrest did not happen. Current jail lists change as people are released, transferred or processed into another system.
| Possible reason | What it can mean | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| Person was released | The current-inmate list may no longer display the person. | Search North Dakota Courts Records Inquiry and contact the arresting agency. |
| Booking is very recent | Public data may not yet reflect completed intake. | Call the detention center at 701-255-3113. |
| Name does not match | The record may use a full legal name, former name or different spelling. | Retry with verified identifying information. |
| Wrong jurisdiction | The arrest may belong to Morton County or another North Dakota jurisdiction. | Confirm where the arrest happened and which agency made it. |
| Transferred to state custody | The county jail may no longer be the correct custody system. | Check ND DOCR Resident Lookup. |
| Public court information is restricted | Some records are excluded from public online access by law or court rule. | Contact the appropriate court clerk or records office. |

Best Way to Verify a Bismarck Arrest
Use the jail, law-enforcement agency and court record together. Start with the Burleigh/Morton Detention Center for current custody. Use Bismarck Police or the Burleigh County Sheriff’s Department for the underlying law-enforcement record. Then check North Dakota Courts Records Inquiry for the filed case and disposition.
That sequence is more reliable than treating a mugshot page as a complete criminal record, and it helps separate a temporary booking entry from what ultimately happened in court.
