Chattanooga Mugshots, Arrests & Recent Booking Records
For a recent arrest in Chattanooga, start with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. HCSO operates the Hamilton County Jail & Detention Center and provides both an inmate-information search and date-based booking reports for people processed through the county jail.
Use the jail record to identify the correct person, then move to Hamilton County criminal-court records when you need court dates or case disposition. Chattanooga Police records are a separate route when you need the underlying CPD incident or police report.
Search Hamilton County’s official jail records first
HCSO says the Hamilton County Jail & Detention Center is the intake point for arrestees in Hamilton County regardless of arresting agency. The inmate search accepts a last name or SPN number, while the booking-report system lets you choose a booking date.
A booking record is the starting record, not the final case outcome.
How to check recent Chattanooga bookings
The most direct official route for recent local bookings is the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office booking-report system. Instead of relying on a third-party mugshot page, choose the relevant booking date and review the official county record.
Search the Hamilton County inmate list
HCSO’s inmate-information page allows a search by last name or SPN number and also provides a full inmate list. This is the better route when the main question is whether someone is currently shown in Hamilton County custody.
Search by last name
Use a correctly spelled surname. If several people have similar names, compare additional identifiers before assuming you found the right record.
Search by SPN
An SPN is much more specific than a name. If you already obtained it from a booking or jail record, use it to reduce false matches.

What Chattanooga arrest and booking records can tell you
| Record item | What it helps confirm | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Name / identifiers | Which jail record you are viewing | That two people with the same name are the same person |
| Booking date | When the jail intake occurred | That the person remains in custody today |
| Charge | The allegation recorded at that stage | Conviction or final court disposition |
| Bond information | Bond information shown in the jail process | That release has already occurred |
| Booking photo | The image associated with a booking when available | Guilt or current case outcome |
Check Hamilton County criminal court records
Jail information answers booking and custody questions. Court records answer a different question: what happened to the criminal case afterward.
The Hamilton County Criminal Court Clerk keeps records for the county’s criminal courts. The office also publishes Criminal Court and Sessions Criminal Court dockets, dispositions and court-date resources.
Hamilton County Court Case Display provides a defendant-name search route.
Criminal Court dockets include docket and disposition resources.
Sessions Criminal Court dockets provide current scheduling and disposition routes.

How to check bond information
HCSO directs users to the inmate-information system for an inmate’s bond amount. If you need to pay a cash bond, the Sheriff’s Office says cash bonds are paid through the Hamilton County Criminal Court Clerk’s Office at 600 Market Street.
Check the amount first
Use the inmate record or contact the jail before making a trip. Bond conditions and custody status can change as a case progresses.
Using a bond company
HCSO states that a bonding agency must be verified and accepted by the Criminal Court Clerk’s Office.
Need a Chattanooga Police report instead?
A police report and a jail booking record are not the same document. If the arrest or incident was handled by Chattanooga Police and you need the underlying police record, use the City of Chattanooga’s Open Records process.
The city’s Open Records Center can be used to browse existing records or submit and track requests, including police-record requests.
Police report contact
The City of Chattanooga lists the Office of the City Attorney Open Records contact at 423-643-8250. The Police Services Center is at 3410 Amnicola Highway for police-service matters.
Arrest records and warrants are different
An existing booking does not tell you whether another warrant is currently active. HCSO provides a separate warrant-lookup route for open warrants.
Use the Sheriff’s Office warrant tool for warrant questions rather than assuming a warrant exists because an older booking or court record appears online.
Hamilton County Jail video visitation
Hamilton County Jail offers free onsite video visits and remote video visits. HCSO says visitors must create a GettingOut account and obtain facility approval before scheduling.
- Submit a picture of government-issued identification.
- The visitor’s first and last name must match the identification.
- A headshot is required during account verification.
- The person creating the visit must be at least 18.
- HCSO states visitors must have been free from incarceration for at least six months before a visit.
Money, commissary and inmate property
Commissary deposits
HCSO says family or friends may deposit funds at the kiosk in the jail’s front lobby or through its listed online commissary provider. Phone-account deposits use the provider identified by the jail.
Property pickup
Property release is by appointment. HCSO directs callers to 423-209-7042 to schedule and recommends verifying that the Sheriff’s Office actually holds the property before arriving.
What happens to an HCSO mugshot after expungement?
HCSO states that court expungement orders are processed by its Records Unit in the order received. After the Sheriff’s Office completes the expungement process, the mugshot is removed from its system.
That action does not automatically erase copies previously published by private websites or news organizations. A private publisher may have its own correction or removal procedure.
Victim and custody notifications
Hamilton County lists VINE as a corrections resource, while the Tennessee Department of Correction provides victim-notification information for offenders in TDOC custody. These services are useful when a victim or family member needs status updates rather than repeatedly checking a booking page.
Local custody
Check the HCSO corrections resources and VINE route for applicable Hamilton County custody information.
State correctional custody
TDOC Victim Services provides registration guidance for eligible notifications involving offenders under Tennessee Department of Correction jurisdiction.
Common Chattanooga arrest-record problems
Try the HCSO booking report for the relevant date. The person may also have been released, transferred, booked under a different spelling, or processed by a different jurisdiction.
Stop before sharing the record. Compare SPN, booking date and other available identifiers, then verify the court case.
Check Criminal Court or Sessions Criminal Court disposition information. A booking page does not necessarily reflect the later case result.
Use Chattanooga Open Records if the underlying report was created by Chattanooga Police rather than treating the jail entry as the police report.
Contact the responsible clerk or records office. Online court and booking pages are useful research tools but may not substitute for certified documentation.
