Fulton County, Georgia jail and court records

How to Find Fulton County Jail Inmates, Recent Bookings and Mugshots

For a current Fulton County jail lookup, start with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office inmate search. The public database is updated once per day, so a very recent arrest may not appear immediately. If you need a booking photo, do not assume the public inmate result will display one: the Sheriff’s Office documents a separate Open Records process for booking-photo requests.

Important: a jail booking, arrest record, charge or booking photo is not proof of guilt. Use the court record to check what was formally filed and how the case was resolved.

Start with the official Fulton County inmate search

The fastest route is the Sheriff’s inmate-search page, which links to the county’s jail database. Search with the person’s full legal name first. If you have a booking number, SO number, date of birth or approximate booking date, keep it ready because those details help separate people with similar names.

Official county tools can change URLs. If a direct portal stops loading, return to the Sheriff’s inmate-search page above and use its current “Search Inmate Database” link.

How to search Fulton County jail inmates

Use the jail record to answer the immediate question: is this person in Fulton County custody, and what booking information is attached to that custody event? Do not begin with a third-party mugshot site when the official Sheriff database can identify the booking directly.

Open the Sheriff’s official inmate-search page. Use Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Inmate Search. The Sheriff states that the database is updated once per day.
Search the person’s name carefully. Use the full legal name when known. Try a shorter version if a middle name, suffix, hyphen or spelling variation prevents a match.
Confirm identity before relying on a result. Compare available identifiers such as date of birth, booking number, SO number, booking date, arresting agency and facility. A common name alone is not enough.
Save the booking identifiers. Record the booking number and SO number if shown. Those identifiers are useful when asking about bond, inmate money, a booking photo or another jail service.
Check the court record for the case outcome. Jail data describes custody and booking. Use the Fulton County Clerk’s court search to determine what charges were filed and what happened afterward.
Best practice: if you are trying to identify someone with a common name, match at least two independent details before treating the booking as the same person.

What a Fulton County booking record can — and cannot — tell you

Record detail What it usually helps establish What it does not prove
Booking date When the person entered the booking process That the person was convicted
Booking or SO number A specific jail identity or custody event The final court case number
Charge description The allegation recorded in the booking system That the charge remained unchanged or resulted in guilt
Bond information Release conditions recorded by the jail or court That bond was paid or release has already occurred
Release date/status Whether the jail record shows a release or change in custody The final legal disposition of the criminal case
Booking photo A photograph associated with the booking if lawfully available Guilt, conviction or the final outcome of the case

For a complete picture, use the booking number to connect the jail event to the later court record. Charges can be amended, dismissed, reduced or resolved differently from the wording that first appeared during intake.

How to check recent Fulton County arrests and bookings

A recent arrest may take time to move through property intake, medical screening, fingerprinting, photographing and warrants checks before the public jail record becomes useful. Fulton County’s inmate database is not a real-time feed; the Sheriff says it is updated once daily.

If the arrest happened today

Search the official inmate database first, then check again after the next daily update if no result appears. For time-sensitive charge or bond questions, the Sheriff lists the Main Jail front desk as an information route.

If the person was already released

A current-custody search may no longer be the best source. Use the booking identifiers you saved, the Fulton Clerk court search, and the Sheriff’s Open Records process if you need an existing booking record or booking photo.

Recent booking is not the same as current custody. A person may have been booked and then released on bond, released on another court condition, transferred, or moved to another custody system.

Fulton County mugshots and booking photos: the official request route

The Sheriff’s public inmate-search page does not promise that every result will display a booking photo. Fulton County instead documents a specific Open Records route for requesting booking photographs. The Sheriff’s Open Records page instructs requesters seeking a booking photo to attach the official Release of Booking Photos Letter of Affirmation.

Identify the booking first. Find the correct person in the inmate database and save the full name, booking number or SO number, and approximate booking date.
Open the Fulton County Open Records Center. Start from the Sheriff’s Open Records Request page. New users may need to create an account in the county records portal.
Select the Sheriff as the department. The Sheriff’s instructions specifically say to choose Sheriff in the department dropdown when requesting Sheriff records.
Describe one identifiable booking photo. Provide the person’s name plus the booking number/SO number and booking date when available. A narrow request is easier to identify than a vague request for “all mugshots.”
Attach the booking-photo affirmation form. Download the official Release of Booking Photos Letter of Affirmation, complete it accurately, and attach it as directed.
Review any estimate before production. Fulton County says Open Records charges can include permitted search, redaction, administrative and copying costs. The county provides an estimate before producing records when charges apply.
Do not misstate the purpose of a photo request. The Sheriff’s affirmation form is a legal statement tied to Georgia law, and it warns that knowingly false statements in a booking-photo request can have legal consequences.

Charges, bond information and first appearance

For charge and bond questions, the Fulton County Sheriff lists the inmate/arrestee information system and Main Jail contacts as official routes. The jail page lists 404-613-2002 and 404-662-3516 for charge and bond information and states that the Main Jail front desk at 901 Rice Street NW is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for this purpose.

Need Official route Useful detail
Current charge/bond information Inmate search or Main Jail information line Have the booking number or SO number ready if possible
First appearance Fulton County Magistrate Court The hearing advises the defendant of charges and addresses bail/release conditions; it is not a trial on the merits
Weekday first appearance Rice Street Jail Current Clerk guidance lists misdemeanor hearings at 9:00 a.m. and felony hearings at 11:00 a.m.
Weekend first appearance Rice Street Jail Current Clerk guidance lists felony and misdemeanor first appearances at 11:00 a.m.
Holiday hearing time Contact Fulton County Jail The Clerk advises calling 404-613-2000 because holiday hearing times are set by the judge

Bond status can change after a hearing or later court order. If a jail search shows an amount but you are making a time-sensitive decision, confirm the current status with the jail or court instead of relying on an older screenshot.

Use Fulton County court records to check what happened after the arrest

The jail record and the court record answer different questions. Once a criminal case is filed, the Fulton County Clerk’s online records tools are the better place to follow case activity, filed charges, hearing events and disposition information.

Magistrate and State cases

Use the Clerk’s Find a Case page and choose the Magistrate and State Judicial Records Search when that court has the case.

Superior Court cases

Use the same Clerk page and choose the Superior Judicial Records Search for cases in Superior Court.

Official copies

If you need a certified disposition or another official copy, use the Clerk’s record-copy service rather than relying on a screen capture of a docket.

Clerk contact

Lewis R. Slaton Courthouse, 136 Pryor Street, Atlanta, GA 30303; Clerk main number 404-613-5313. The Clerk lists weekday operational hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for the main courthouse.

What to do if the person is not in the Fulton County inmate search

A missing result does not automatically mean the person was never arrested. Use the situation to choose the next system rather than repeating the same search.

Booking may not be complete

The public database updates once daily, while intake itself can take time. If the arrest is very recent, confirm with the Main Jail and check the official database after the next update.

The person may have been released

If the person bonded out or was otherwise released, switch to the court record and, when necessary, Open Records rather than treating a current roster as permanent history.

The person may be in Georgia state custody

Use the Georgia Department of Corrections Find an Offender tool for people in GDC facilities. GDC states that offender photographs display automatically when available.

The person may be in federal custody

Use the Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator for federal inmates. A Fulton County jail search does not cover federal custody.

If you know the arresting agency but still cannot locate the person, contact that agency and ask which detention facility received the arrestee. Fulton County includes arrests by multiple city and state law-enforcement agencies, so the arresting agency and the jail custodian may be different.

Visitation, phone calls, inmate money and release notifications

Once you identify the correct inmate, use the Sheriff’s own jail-service instructions rather than guessing which vendor or facility rules apply.

  • Visitation: Fulton County uses a video-conferencing visitation system. The Sheriff says visitation information is not provided by telephone or email, so check the current Inmate Visitation page before planning a visit.
  • Inmate money: the Sheriff’s jail page lists postal money order, lobby kiosk, online and phone deposit options. The inmate’s SO number is used for certain remote deposit methods.
  • Phone/video service: Fulton County’s jail information page lists ICSolutions for certain calling/video services and GettingOut for inmate messaging. Use the Sheriff page to reach the current vendor instructions because fees and vendor details can change.
  • Custody notifications: Fulton County points victims to VINE and lists the Georgia Fulton VINE toll-free number as 877-994-8463. VINE is useful for custody-status alerts; it is not a substitute for the full jail or court record.

If a Fulton County mugshot appears on a commercial website

An official booking-photo record and a commercial mugshot page are not the same thing. Georgia’s Attorney General explains that state law provides removal rights in specified circumstances and prohibits qualifying commercial sites from charging for removal when the statutory conditions are met.

If you are trying to remove a photo from a third-party commercial site, review the Georgia Attorney General’s mugshot website guidance. Do not send payment simply because a site claims payment is required; first check whether Georgia’s statutory removal protections apply to the record.

Fulton County jail inmates and mugshots: 10 common questions

1. What is the official Fulton County inmate search?
Use the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Inmate Search at fcsoga.org/inmate-search/. It links to the official jail database used for public inmate lookup.
2. How often is the Fulton County inmate database updated?
The Sheriff’s Office states that the public inmate database is updated once per day. Treat it as a daily public record tool rather than a minute-by-minute booking feed.
3. Does the Fulton County inmate search always show mugshots?
Do not assume every public inmate result will display a booking photo. Fulton County documents a separate Open Records process for booking-photo requests, including a required affirmation form.
4. How do I request a Fulton County booking photo?
Start at the Sheriff’s Open Records Request page, choose the Sheriff as the department, describe the specific booking, and attach the official Release of Booking Photos Letter of Affirmation as instructed.
5. What information should I save from an inmate result?
Save the full name, booking number, SO number if shown, booking date, facility and any available charge or release details. These identifiers make later court, bond and records searches more precise.
6. Why might a recently arrested person not appear in the search?
The intake process may still be underway, the daily database update may not have occurred yet, the person may have been released, or the person may be held by another local, state or federal system.
7. How can I check Fulton County charges and bond information?
Use the official inmate/arrestee information route. The Sheriff also lists 404-613-2002 and 404-662-3516 for charge and bond information and identifies the Main Jail front desk at 901 Rice Street NW as a 24/7 information point.

Fulton County points victims to the VINE notification system and lists 877-994-8463 for Georgia Fulton VINE. Availability depends on the custody event and data supplied to VINE.
10. What if the person is in state or federal custody instead?
Use Georgia Department of Corrections Find an Offender for Georgia state-prison custody and the Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator for federal inmates. Neither system is replaced by the Fulton County jail search.
