Gainesville Mugshots, Arrests and Jail Records: Start With Alachua County

For a Gainesville arrest or current jail lookup, the most useful starting point is the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office inmate search. It can be searched by last name, first name, booking number, or by viewing the current inmate population.

A jail listing is only one part of the record trail. Use the booking information to identify the correct person, then check the Alachua County Clerk of Court when you need the related criminal case or later court activity.

Arrest does not mean conviction. A booking entry, charge or photograph records an arrest or custody event. It does not establish guilt, and a person’s current case outcome may be different from the original booking information.

Fastest route for a Gainesville arrest search

Search the Sheriff’s current inmate system first. If you find the person, record the full name and booking number before opening other systems. Those identifiers reduce the chance of mixing records belonging to people with similar names.

The Sheriff states that its inmate-search link is hosted on another website, so leaving the ACSO domain after using the official search page can be normal.

What a Gainesville Booking Search Can—and Cannot—Tell You

Use the jail system for custody

The official inmate search is designed to show whether a person is currently an inmate in the Alachua County Jail. It is the strongest local source when the immediate question is whether someone is presently in county custody.

Use the court system for the case

The Alachua County Clerk’s online court-record system provides court information and available document images. Some case types and document images are restricted from public online access.

Question Best official route Why
Is the person currently in jail? ACSO Inmate Search Designed specifically for current Alachua County Jail inmates.
What happened after the arrest? Alachua County Clerk court records Court records can show later filings, hearings and case disposition when publicly available.
What is the bond or release process? ACSO Booking Support / bond information The jail publishes local procedures for cash, surety and other release types.
Need an offense report or jail record? ACSO Public Records Records requests are handled separately from the inmate-search system.
Booking photos can be incomplete or unavailable. Do not assume that every arrest will have a publicly displayed mugshot. Availability can depend on the system, record status, law, agency practice and the type of record requested.

Check the Alachua County Court Case After an Arrest

A booking record captures the custody event. If you need to know whether charges were filed, whether a case remains pending, or what later action occurred, check the Alachua County Clerk of Circuit Court.

Current custody

Alachua County Sheriff inmate search — use this first for a current county-jail lookup.

Court case

Alachua County Clerk court records — use this for public court-case information and available document images.

Agency records

ACSO public-record request — use this when the information you need is not supplied by the basic inmate lookup.

The Clerk warns that some records are non-public and that electronic document images are not available for every filing. A missing online image therefore does not necessarily mean the underlying case or paper record does not exist.

Bond and Release Information at the Alachua County Jail

The Sheriff publishes separate rules for jail releases. Bond can be posted in the jail lobby from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.; an after-hours service window is available to the left of the jail’s front entrance.

Cash bond

ACSO states that cash bonds may be posted by cash, money order or cashier’s check payable to the Clerk of the Court. Money orders and cashier’s checks should include the inmate’s correct full name and MNI number.

Surety bond

A surety bond must be written through a certified bonding agency registered with both the Alachua County Clerk of Court and ACSO to write bonds in the county.

For bond questions, ACSO lists the Booking Support Bureau administrative supervisor at (352) 491-4479 during normal business hours and a Booking Support supervisor at (352) 491-4459 24/7.

Review the current ACSO bond and release instructions before traveling to the jail or purchasing a financial instrument.

Visiting Someone in the Alachua County Jail

Visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance through the jail’s designated scheduling service. ACSO says eligible inmates who are not on disciplinary confinement may receive two hours of non-contact visitation each week, subject to the schedule for their housing area.

  • Bring valid photo identification such as a driver license, state ID, military photo ID or valid passport.
  • Follow the jail dress code; inappropriate clothing can result in a visit being denied.
  • Visitors may visit only one inmate per day.
  • Property cannot be handed to an inmate during visitation.
  • Visitors must clear security screening before entering the visitation area.

ACSO also offers paid internet visits for eligible inmates. The Sheriff currently lists 30-minute remote sessions at $7.95 and says internet visits are available seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., subject to the housing schedule.

Check the current inmate-services and visitation instructions before scheduling.

Mail, Money and Phone Information

Mail

Except for privileged/legal mail, ACSO states that incoming inmate mail must be a postcard. It must include the inmate’s full name and a complete return address.

Mailing address:
3333 NE 39th Avenue
Gainesville, FL 32609

Money and care packages

ACSO lists lobby-kiosk deposits, money orders, Access Corrections, Access Securepak and other approved deposit routes. The inmate’s full MNI number may be required for a transaction.

Phone calls

Inmates cannot receive incoming calls. ACSO states that telephone privileges are generally provided daily between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.

Vendor fees and jail rules can change. Confirm the current provider, transaction instructions and inmate identifier before sending money or purchasing a package.

Requesting a Gainesville Arrest or Jail Record

If the online inmate search does not provide what you need, ACSO accepts public-record requests in person, by phone and online.

Useful ACSO records contacts

Open the ACSO public-record request instructions to verify current fees and submission options.

Avoid Matching the Wrong Gainesville Arrest Record

Names are not unique, and booking information can change after release or court action. Before associating a record with a specific person, compare multiple identifiers rather than relying on a name or image alone.

  • Match the full legal name and spelling.
  • Use the booking number when available.
  • Compare dates and other public identifiers carefully.
  • Confirm that the booking belongs to Alachua County.
  • Use the Clerk’s case information for later court status.
  • Do not describe an arrest or charge as a conviction unless the court record supports that statement.
Released from jail? A person who no longer appears in a current-inmate search may still have a court case or historical public record. Current custody and historical arrest information are different questions.
