Find Indiana Mugshots, Jail Bookings and Arrest Records
Indiana booking information is spread across county jails, sheriff offices, state correctional systems and courts. If you are checking a recent arrest, start with the county where the person was booked; use the Indiana Department of Correction locator when the person has moved into state custody.
A booking photo or arrest entry documents a law-enforcement event. It does not establish guilt, and a charge listed at booking may later be amended, dismissed or resolved differently in court.
Choose the record you actually need
County jail systems are normally the better starting point for a fresh local booking. IDOC is the better route for people in Indiana state correctional custody, while MyCase is useful when you need the court case connected with an arrest.
These are government resources. County sheriff and jail search systems vary by county, so the exact fields and photo availability are not the same statewide.
Where to Search for Indiana Mugshots and Recent Bookings
There is an important difference between a county jail booking and state-prison custody. Someone arrested today may initially appear only in the local county system. A person later committed to the Indiana Department of Correction may instead appear in the state’s incarcerated-individual locator.
Search the sheriff or jail serving the county where the arrest or booking occurred. Look for labels such as inmate search, jail roster, current inmates, recent bookings or offender search.
Use the Indiana Department of Correction incarcerated-individual locator if the person is serving time or otherwise housed within the state correctional system.
Use Indiana MyCase to look for public, non-confidential case information from courts using the Odyssey case management system.
Indiana SAVIN can provide custody information and status-change notifications for eligible records.
What an Indiana Jail Booking Record May Show
The exact information depends on the county system. A public booking entry may include identifying information, custody details, listed charges and bond information. Some counties display a booking photograph while others limit the information available online.
| Field | How to use it | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Booking number | Useful for distinguishing one jail admission from another. | It is not the same as a court case number. |
| Booking date | Helps confirm that the record matches the arrest period you are researching. | It does not tell you how the case ended. |
| Listed charge | Shows the allegation or booking classification displayed by the jail. | Charges may later change in court. |
| Bond or bail | May show an amount or custody condition recorded by the facility. | Court orders can change bond status. |
| Booking photo | May help distinguish people with similar names when lawfully published. | A mugshot is not proof of guilt. |
How to Search an Indiana Booking Safely
Use Indiana MyCase to Check Charges and Court Activity
Indiana MyCase is the statewide public court-search service for public case information from courts participating in the Odyssey system. Public users can search non-confidential cases without paying for basic access.
Search by party
MyCase supports party searches using a last name and optional additional name information. Search results can be narrowed when necessary, but over-narrowing can exclude a matching case.
Search by case number
If the jail or court paperwork gives you a case or cause number, that is usually a stronger way to connect a booking to the correct criminal case.
Check case status
Court entries can help distinguish an open criminal matter from a case that has already reached a later stage.
Use the clerk for the official record
Indiana’s court system cautions that online MyCase information is not the official court record. Contact the court maintaining the case when an official copy or authoritative confirmation is required.
When to Use the Indiana Department of Correction Locator
The Indiana Department of Correction locator is for people in the state correctional system. IDOC says its locator can be searched using a first name, last name or DOC number.
If you are checking an arrest that happened very recently, a county jail is usually the more relevant starting point. The IDOC locator should not be treated as a replacement for local jail searches.
Indiana SAVIN for Custody Status and Notifications
Indiana SAVIN is the state’s automated victim information and notification service. It provides custody-status information and allows users to register for notifications about qualifying changes such as release, transfer or other status updates.
The state says SAVIN is available at no cost and can provide information involving offenders across Indiana’s counties. A notification service should still be one part of a broader safety plan rather than the only source used for personal safety decisions.
How to Avoid Matching the Wrong Person
Name-only searches are risky, especially with common names. Before associating an arrest record or mugshot with a particular person, compare as many non-sensitive identifiers as the official system provides.
- County or arresting jurisdiction
- Booking date
- Middle name or middle initial
- Age or birth-year information when publicly displayed
- Booking or inmate number
- Court case or cause number
- Custody facility
Why an Indiana Mugshot or Booking May Not Appear Online
The county does not publish photos
Public jail interfaces differ. A county may provide custody information without displaying booking photographs.
The person was released
Some jail rosters emphasize current inmates, so a released person’s booking may stop appearing in the active roster.
The person transferred
Custody can move from a county jail to another facility or to the state correctional system.
The search spelling is different
Hyphenation, middle names and alternate spellings can affect results in some search tools.
The record is restricted
Sealed, expunged, confidential or otherwise restricted information may not be publicly available online.
The database has not updated yet
Separate justice systems do not necessarily update at the same moment. Verify with the responsible agency when timing matters.
Booking Record vs. Court Record vs. DOC Record
| Record | Best for | Not designed to prove |
|---|---|---|
| County jail booking | Recent arrest, jail custody, booking details | Final court outcome |
| Indiana MyCase | Public case events, charges, orders and case status | Current physical jail location |
| IDOC locator | Indiana state correctional custody and DOC identification | Every recent county arrest |
| Indiana SAVIN | Custody information and qualifying status notifications | The final legal disposition of a criminal case |
What “Charges” Mean on an Indiana Booking Page
A booking page generally reflects information available to the jail around the time of admission. That is different from the complete court record. Prosecutors may file different charges, charges may be amended, and a court can dismiss counts or reach another disposition.
For that reason, someone researching an older Indiana mugshot should check the related court case instead of repeating the original booking charge as though it were the final result.
Bond Information Can Change After Booking
A jail record may display a bond amount, hold or other custody notation. Treat that information as a snapshot rather than a permanent status because later judicial action can change release conditions.
If a bond question affects an immediate release decision, verify the current status with the jail or the court handling the case rather than relying on an older screenshot or third-party mugshot page.
Troubleshooting an Indiana Arrest Record Search
Confirm the arrest county and search the responsible sheriff or jail. If the event is recent, allow for normal processing before assuming there is no record.
The agency may not publish booking photographs through its public interface. Do not substitute an unrelated third-party image.
Open the related MyCase record to check whether the charge or case status later changed.
Check the court record and, when appropriate, the IDOC locator or SAVIN rather than assuming release or transfer.
Stop using the record until you can reconcile the county, date and available identifiers with the person you intended to research.
