Find Mecklenburg County Arrest Mugshots, Bookings & Jail Records
For current Mecklenburg County arrest and detention information, start with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. Its Resident Inquiry is the main official route for mug shots and resident information, while the separate court system is the better place to follow a criminal case after booking.
Arrest is not conviction. A booking photo, criminal charge or jail record shows that a person entered the criminal-justice process; it does not establish guilt or the final outcome of the case.
Use the Sheriff’s official inquiry first
Search the MCSO Resident Inquiry when you need a Mecklenburg County mugshot or resident record. If your purpose is to determine what happened in court, move from the jail record to the North Carolina eCourts Portal or the Mecklenburg County Clerk of Superior Court.
Use the jail record as a starting point, then verify custody, bond and case disposition through the appropriate official system.
How to Search Mecklenburg County Mugshots
The Sheriff’s Resident Inquiry page identifies its resident search as the route for “mug shots and more.” It also provides an Arrest Inquiry route for arrest information and a Civil Inquiry for civil process records.
What “Today’s Bookings” Means in Mecklenburg County
People searching for “today’s Mecklenburg County mugshots” usually want the newest arrest or booking information. The most reliable approach is to use the Sheriff’s current inquiry tools rather than a cached list reproduced by another website.
The Arrest Processing Center is the centralized entry point for people arrested in Mecklenburg County by participating law-enforcement agencies. MCSO states that the center operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and uses digital mugshot equipment during processing.
Very recent arrest
Processing can take time. If someone was arrested only moments ago, a public-facing record may not yet reflect every charge, bond condition or housing detail.
Arrest but no current jail stay
A person may be processed and then released after satisfying release conditions. A past arrest entry therefore should not be interpreted as proof of current incarceration.
What a Mecklenburg County Booking Record Can Tell You
Available fields can change by record and system. Use the record for the information it actually displays, and do not infer missing facts.
| Task | Best route | What it can show |
|---|---|---|
| Mugshot or resident lookup | MCSO Resident Inquiry | Resident information and available booking photo information |
| Arrest information | MCSO Arrest Inquiry | Public arrest information when available through the inquiry system |
| Current detention details | MCSO / VINE | Custody status, charges, bond, housing and court-date information depending on the service |
| Case history or court date | NC eCourts Portal | Public docket entries, case information and court dates for accessible case types |
| Official court copy | Mecklenburg Clerk of Superior Court | Official copies of court records where available |
Check Current Custody, Bond and Release Status
For general detention information, including how to pay a bond, MCSO lists 704-336-8100. For information about a specific resident, MCSO directs users to VINE at 1-800-247-9658.
MCSO says VINE can provide information about charges, bond, housing and court dates for people committed to its detention facilities. Crime victims may also register for automated notification when a specific resident is released or transferred.
Search Resident Inquiry, then use VINE or the MCSO information line if you need an additional custody check.
Call 704-336-8100 for general information about how to pay a bond. Bond conditions may change after a court appearance.
Use VINE at 1-800-247-9658 to check qualifying custody information and register for release or transfer notifications.
Use Mecklenburg County Court Records for the Case Outcome
A jail inquiry answers a different question from a court record. If you need to know what happened after the arrest, search the North Carolina eCourts Portal and, when necessary, contact the Mecklenburg County Clerk of Superior Court.
North Carolina reports that eCourts is now implemented statewide. The Mecklenburg County court page directs users to Portal for public case information, court dates and accessible court documents.
Online court search
Portal can be searched using details such as party name and case-related information. Use the exact spelling and identifiers gathered from the jail record when possible.
Official court copies
The Judicial Branch states that Portal itself is not the official court record. For an official copy, contact the appropriate Clerk of Superior Court office.
Mecklenburg County Detention Center Central
Detention Center Central is the primary adult pretrial detention facility referenced by the Sheriff’s Office. MCSO lists the facility and Arrest Processing Center at 801 East Fourth Street, Charlotte, NC 28202.
The Sheriff’s main information line is 704-336-8100. MCSO lists Detention Center Central at 980-314-5200 and Arrest Processing at 980-314-5100. Detention Operations, Arrest Processing and Dispatch are listed as operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Visitation, Resident Accounts and Communication
Visitation
MCSO lists visitation periods of 8:00–11:00 a.m., 1:00–4:00 p.m. and 8:00–10:00 p.m. Visits must generally be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance, and MCSO says visitors arriving 10 minutes after their scheduled time will have the visit cancelled.
Valid identification is required. Check the current visitation rules before traveling because facility conditions or disciplinary restrictions can affect visits.
Resident money
MCSO states that residents have an assigned account number and that the maximum balance permitted in a resident account is $300. Deposit methods and fees can vary, so use the Sheriff’s current Send Money page before making a payment.
How to Send Mail to a Mecklenburg County Resident
MCSO uses a digital personal-mail process. The Sheriff’s current mail instructions say personal correspondence should include the resident’s first and last name and PID or resident identifier, along with the sender’s return information.

- Include the resident’s full name and identifier.
- Include the sender’s complete return address.
- Do not send cash, checks or money orders to the personal-mail address.
- Certified or registered mail requiring a receipt signature is not accepted.
- Books and periodicals have separate restrictions and generally must come directly from a bookstore or publisher.
How Long Arrest and Resident Inquiry Information Stays Online
MCSO states that arrest and resident inquiry information remains online for three years from the date of arrest or release from the Detention Center. A historical result may therefore remain visible after the person is no longer incarcerated.
The Sheriff’s page says that removal before the three-year period requires the Sheriff’s Office to receive an Order of Expunction signed by a judge. Eligibility for expunction is a legal question and depends on the case; the Sheriff advises people seeking expunction information to contact an attorney.
What to Do If You Cannot Find the Person
Recheck spelling, alternate name forms and identifying details. A new arrest may still be processing, or the person may no longer be in county custody.
MCSO notes that local firewall settings can interfere with access. Try the Sheriff’s main inquiry page or contact MCSO at 704-336-8100.
Use eCourts or the Clerk of Superior Court to determine whether later court activity changed the charge, bond or disposition.
Stop relying on the name match. Compare the PID or resident identifier, dates and case information before sharing or using the record.
For qualifying current residents, use VINE rather than repeatedly checking an old booking page.
