Travis County Mugshots, Current Jail Bookings and Recent Arrest Records

If you are trying to find a recent Travis County arrest, start with the Travis County Sheriff’s Office inmate search. It is the official route for checking people currently held in TCSO custody and can help you identify the correct booking before you move on to bond, court or records searches.

A mugshot is only one part of a booking record. For a useful search, confirm the person’s name and identifying information, record the jail or booking number, review each listed charge and bond, and then use Travis County court records to follow the case. If you specifically need the booking photograph, TCSO says members of the public must request it through the Sheriff’s Office open-records process.

Best first action

Search the official Travis County inmate system

Use the Sheriff’s inmate-search route before relying on third-party mugshot or people-search sites. The Sheriff’s Office itself warns that public inmate data should be verified before it is relied upon.

Save the identifiers before opening another system. Write down the full booked name, date of birth if shown, Jail ID or booking number, booking date, charge information and bond details. Those identifiers reduce wrong-person matches when you move to court or records searches.

What Do You Need to Do?

Where to Find Travis County Mugshots

The official inmate system is the right place to start for current custody and booking information, but TCSO’s Public Information Office gives a separate instruction for obtaining a booking photograph.

Members of the public

Use an Open Records Request

TCSO states that a non-media requester seeking a booking photo must obtain it through an Open Records Request.

The written request should include your name, address and a detailed description of the records requested. Giving the person’s full name, booking number and approximate arrest date can help identify the record.

Media requests

Different instructions can apply

TCSO tells media requesters that if TCSO made the arrest, the request for a booking photo should include the affidavit or warrant. If another agency made the arrest, TCSO says that agency must authorize release of the image.

Use the Sheriff’s current Public Information Office instructions rather than assuming every booking photo is immediately available online.

Public-information timing: TCSO says the Texas Public Information Act allows 10 business days from receipt to respond to an information request. That is a response period under the Act, not a promise that every requested image will be released within exactly 10 business days.

What Happens After an Arrest in Travis County?

TCSO says a person arrested in Travis County is brought to the Central Booking Facility inside the Travis County Jail at 500 W. 10th St., Austin, TX 78701.

Intake

The booking process begins with intake screening, including medical, mental-health and physical-health history.

Holding

TCSO’s current booking flowchart shows that booking can include a photograph and fingerprints while the person is in the holding process.

Magistration

A judge advises the arrested person of the formal charge or charges and whether bail is applicable.

Property

Personal belongings are inventoried and stored. The person receives an inmate booking number and jail clothing.

Housing

After processing, the person may be housed or transported within the Travis County corrections system according to operational and classification needs.

TCSO notes that a person receives court-date paperwork on release. Court settings can also be followed through the appropriate Travis County criminal court resources.

How to Read a Travis County Booking Record

Use booking details as identifiers, not as proof of guilt.
Field What it helps you understand What to check next
Booked name The name recorded during the jail intake process. Compare date of birth and booking/Jail ID before assuming identity.
Booking or Jail ID An identifier used by the jail system. Save it for mail, deposits, records and other jail-related tasks.
Charge The alleged offense associated with the custody entry. Use court records to see the filed case and later disposition.
Bond The release condition or amount associated with a charge when one has been set. Read each charge separately; one unresolved hold can still prevent release.
Custody status Whether TCSO currently shows the person in its custody. If no longer listed, check the court case or other custody system.

What If the Person Is Not in the Travis County Inmate Search?

A missing result does not by itself prove that no arrest occurred. The person may have been released, transferred, booked under different identifying information, held by another jurisdiction or moved into state or federal custody.

Recent Travis County case

  • Retry the surname without a middle name.
  • Check the Travis County criminal docket by arrested person’s name.
  • Search the appropriate court records for a filed case.
  • Call TCSO general jail information at 512-854-9889 if needed.

Possible transfer or other custody

  • Check the Texas Department of Criminal Justice if state-prison custody is possible.
  • Check the Federal Bureau of Prisons for federal custody.
  • Consider another county if the arrest occurred outside Travis County.
  • Use the court case to distinguish release from transfer when possible.

Travis County Jail Locations

The Sheriff’s Corrections Bureau operates two correctional sites. The downtown jail includes the Central Booking Facility, while the Travis County Correctional Complex is in Del Valle.

How Travis County Jail Bond Information Works

TCSO says bond information appears under each charge in the inmate search. Read every charge rather than stopping at the first bond amount because release can depend on all active charges, holds and court orders.

“Any” bond

TCSO says this can allow a cash, surety or personal bond.

Cash or surety

A personal bond is not accepted for that bond line; the options are cash or surety.

No bond information

TCSO explains that no bond has been set for that charge yet; one may be set later.

Cash bonds

TCSO accepts cash bonds in person at the facility where the defendant is housed. The Sheriff’s bond page says to call 512-854-4180 to confirm the location. The listed bonding locations include the Blackwell Thurman Criminal Justice Center Bonding Office at 509 W. 11th St., Austin and the Travis County Correctional Complex at 3614 Bill Price Rd., Del Valle.

For a cash bond, TCSO requires the full amount. It accepts exact cash, a cashier’s check or money order and warns that the office does not make change or accept an overage.

Personal bonds

A person in custody cannot approve or post a personal bond for themselves. TCSO says Travis County Pretrial Services or an attorney may submit a request to a judge, and only a judge can approve the release.

The Sheriff’s current bond page states that a defendant released on a personal bond must pay an administrative fee of $40 or 3% of the bond amount to Travis County Pretrial Services within seven days of release. For the status of a personal-bond application, TCSO directs the public to Pretrial Services at 512-854-9381.

Scam warning: TCSO warns that phone scammers impersonate officers and demand payment. Verify payment instructions through official TCSO resources before sending money.

How to Follow a Travis County Criminal Case After Booking

Jail information tells you about custody. Court information tells you what happened in the criminal case. Travis County uses separate clerk responsibilities for felony and misdemeanor records.

Felony cases

District Clerk

The Travis County District Clerk maintains adult felony criminal records. Its public Odyssey route provides case information and public court records for qualifying cases.

The District Clerk says its online criminal records coverage includes cases from 2008 to the present on the current free records-search route.

Misdemeanor cases

County Clerk

Misdemeanor criminal case information is handled by the Travis County Clerk. Travis County’s criminal-court resources link users to the same broader Odyssey environment for public searches.

Understand the cause number

The Travis County District Attorney explains that felony cause numbers beginning with D-1-DC are felony cases handled by the District Attorney. Misdemeanor cause numbers beginning with C are handled by the County Attorney’s Office.

Check the next setting

The county’s Criminal Docket Search lets users search future felony and misdemeanor settings by the arrested person’s name, attorney, judge or court number, or case number.

Travis County Jail Visitation

TCSO currently lists onsite visitation at the Travis County Correctional Complex, 3614 Bill Price Rd., Del Valle. Both face-to-face non-contact visits and onsite video visits are administered there.

Days Wednesday–Sunday
Hours 8:00 a.m.–9:00 p.m.
Frequency Two onsite visits per week
Advance scheduling Face-to-face: at least 24 hours

County holidays are excluded. TCSO says visitors should arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled visit and that check-in ends 15 minutes before the visit. Late check-ins are not accepted.

  • Visitors age 17 or older need government-issued photo identification.
  • Minors under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • Two visitors are normally permitted in the face-to-face area.
  • When children under 12 are present, the posted exception allows a total of three visitors.
  • Food and beverages are not permitted in visitation.
  • TCSO enforces a visitation dress code.

Face-to-face visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance through the visitation system linked by TCSO. At-home video communication is also available through the jail’s current communications provider.

Review current Travis County visitation rules before leaving home.

How to Send Money or Commissary to a Travis County Inmate

TCSO requires the inmate’s full name, date of birth, Jail ID number or booking number for inmate-trust-fund deposits. Get those identifiers from the official inmate search first.

In person

TCCC Finance Building #230

3614 Bill Price Rd., Del Valle. The standard posted window is Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m., excluding county holidays.

TCSO says no credit/debit cards or checks are accepted at this window. Money orders or cashier’s checks must be payable to Inmate Trust Fund.

By mail

Inmate Trust Fund

Inmate Trust Fund
Inmate’s Full Name and Jail ID/Booking Number
P.O. Box 1368
Del Valle, TX 78617

Include the inmate’s date of birth plus the sender’s name and return address.

Electronic option

Western Union

TCSO currently lists Western Union as an electronic deposit option and notes that vendor fees apply. Deposits are posted the following business day according to the Sheriff’s current instructions.

Money-order limit: TCSO says it does not accept money orders over $100 for deposit to an inmate trust account.

Commissary

Inmates may order traditional commissary through jail kiosks using their trust-fund account. TCSO also lists SecurePak packages. The Sheriff’s current page states that SecurePak purchases can total up to $100 in products per inmate per week and usually arrive 10–14 days after order processing.

Check current inmate money and commissary instructions.

How to Send Mail to a Travis County Inmate

TCSO requires correspondence to be mailed directly to the facility where the inmate is housed. The envelope or correspondence must identify the inmate using the information specified by the Sheriff’s Office.

  • Use the inmate’s full name.
  • Include date of birth.
  • Include Jail ID number or booking number.
  • Include the sender’s return address.
  • Verify whether the inmate is at the downtown jail or TCCC before mailing.

TCSO says paperback books, magazines and newspapers may be accepted only when sent directly from a publisher or distributing warehouse and subject to the Sheriff’s posted limits and contraband rules.

How Inmate Property Release Works

TCSO inventories personal belongings during booking. An inmate may authorize release of the sealed valuables bag and/or a specified amount of money to another person, but the inmate must sign the property-release form before the designee arrives.

The person picking up property must show valid photo identification. TCSO describes release of the sealed valuables bag as an all-or-nothing transaction rather than allowing individual items to be selected from the bag.

Location Property Money
Travis County Jail / Central Booking 7 days a week, 7:30 a.m.–8:30 p.m. 7 days a week, 7:30 a.m.–8:30 p.m.
Travis County Correctional Complex 7 days a week, 7:30 a.m.–8:30 p.m. Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–8:30 p.m.

TCSO also states that arrangements can be made at any time when property release is needed to secure an inmate’s release. If property is missing, the Sheriff’s instructions direct the requester to the arresting agency.

Check current inmate-property instructions.

Travis County Warrant Search

A jail search and a warrant search are not the same thing. The inmate system is designed around current TCSO custody, while Travis County provides a separate public warrant-search route.

If you are trying to determine whether an outstanding Travis County warrant exists, use the county’s official warrant system rather than assuming that a missing inmate result means no warrant exists.

Custody Alerts for Crime Victims

Texas provides a victim-notification system for qualifying county custody and court events. The Texas Attorney General states that management of Texas IVSS-Counties moved to the Office of the Governor effective September 1, 2026, while victim notifications and services continue.

Travis County resources also direct crime victims to VINE/notification services for custody-status updates. Because program administration can change, use the current Texas state notification page to reach the active registration system.

Other Travis County Arrest and Incarceration Records

Incarceration record

TCSO says incarceration records are available from May 1988 to the present. The Sheriff’s Office requires current identification and may require additional authorization when one person requests another individual’s incarceration record.

The current posted fee is $15. In-person pickup is listed Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., excluding Travis County holidays, at TCSO, 5555 Airport Blvd., Austin.

TCSO explicitly says this service does not provide complete criminal histories or clearance letters. For broader criminal history, it directs users to the Texas Department of Public Safety and/or FBI.

Open records

Use a written TCSO Open Records Request for booking photos and other qualifying Sheriff’s records that are not provided through the ordinary inmate-search interface.

No. An arrest, booking, charge, warrant or booking photo does not establish guilt. Use the applicable court record to check filing status and final disposition.

The person may have been released or transferred. Check Travis County court records and dockets, then consider another county, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice or federal custody if the circumstances support those possibilities.
How do I send money to a Travis County inmate?
