How to Find Pima County Arrest, Jail and Booking Records
If you searched for Pima County jail mugshots because you want to confirm a recent arrest, find someone in jail, check charges or bond, or locate the related court case, start with the Pima County Sheriff’s official inmate lookup. The public jail search is designed for people who are currently in Pima County Adult Detention Complex custody; it is not a complete history of past arrests or court outcomes.
Search the Official Pima County Inmate Lookup
The Sheriff’s Department says its inmate lookup lists people currently being held in the Pima County Adult Detention Complex. That makes it the best first check for a recent arrest in Tucson or elsewhere in Pima County when your immediate question is, “Is this person in county jail right now?”
Can You View Pima County Jail Mugshots or Booking Photos Online?
Do not treat “Pima County mugshots” as if there is still an official county photo gallery. In September 2024, Pima County announced that it would stop posting inmate booking photographs online and stop releasing booking photos in its prior format after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit issued its decision in Houston v. Maricopa County. The federal case involved Maricopa County, not Pima County, but it changed how several Arizona agencies handled public booking-photo publication.
What you can still verify
- Whether the person appears in current county custody
- Booking or inmate identifiers shown by the Sheriff’s system
- Charges or court references available with the custody record
- Bond information and the responsible court
- Separate jail records that the Sheriff determines are releasable
What not to assume
- A third-party mugshot page is current or official.
- A booking photograph proves guilt.
- An old arrest page means the person is still jailed.
- The charge listed at booking is necessarily the final filed or adjudicated charge.
- A listed photo-copy fee guarantees a booking photo will be released.
For legal context, read the Ninth Circuit opinion in Houston v. Maricopa County. For the Pima County policy change itself, Arizona Public Media reported the Sheriff’s September 2024 announcement.
Use the Right Record for the Question You Are Trying to Answer
Pima County arrest information is spread across jail and court systems because each system answers a different question. The fastest approach is to start with the record closest to your goal instead of expecting one search page to show everything.
| Your question | Best starting source | What it can tell you | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Is the person in Pima County jail now? | Pima County Sheriff inmate lookup | Current county custody and available booking-related details | It is not a historical arrest archive. |
| I need a jail report or jail file. | PCADC Jail Records Unit | Releasable jail records tied to the inmate and incarceration | Records can be restricted, reviewed or withheld. |
| What happened to the criminal case? | Superior Court, Justice Court or the court of jurisdiction | Filed case information, hearings, documents and dispositions where public | Online access varies by case type and confidentiality rules. |
| The person moved to Arizona state prison. | Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry | State-prison inmate data | County jail lookup is no longer the right custody system. |
| The person is in federal custody. | Federal Bureau of Prisons | Federal inmate location for records generally from 1982 forward | A newly arrested federal detainee may not yet be in BOP custody. |
How to Request Pima County Jail Records
If the person has already been released or you need more than the live inmate roster shows, use the Sheriff’s Obtain Jail Report process. This route is for jail records, not a police incident report and not a court case file.
| Item | Listed fee | Practical note |
|---|---|---|
| Reports, transcripts or other printed material | $5 each | Reports over 20 pages add $0.25 per page. |
| Photographs, video or audio on DVD | $5 per DVD | Availability still depends on whether the requested material is releasable. |
| 4 × 6 printed photograph | $0.25 each | This general photo-copy fee should not be read as a promise that booking photos are available. |
| 8 × 10 or 8 × 12 printed photograph | $3 each | Subject to record availability and review. |
| Large-request production | $15 per hour after the first hour | Can apply when a request requires substantial production work. |
Follow the Arrest Into the Correct Court Record
A booking record is a snapshot of custody. The court file is where you look for filed charges, hearings, motions, dispositions and later case activity. Pima County has more than one court system, so use the case number or court reference from the jail record whenever possible.
Use the Pima County Clerk of the Superior Court Case Records page for criminal and other Superior Court records. The Clerk provides several access routes, including a public record search and Arizona eAccess. The Clerk notes that online document information can take up to three business days after filing to appear.
Use the Pima County Consolidated Justice Court Case Search to search by name, full case number or complaint number. The court states that felony cases, protection-order matters and juvenile criminal or traffic cases are not available through that online search.
The Arizona Judicial Branch Public Access to Court Information can help when you are unsure which participating Arizona court has the case. Its own notice warns that online data may not be complete or current and should be verified with the court of record.

Bond, Initial Appearance and Release Information
If your search is really about getting someone released, collect the inmate’s exact name, booking number, bond amount and court reference before paying anything. The Sheriff’s bond page says bail bonds are accepted at the Inmate Accounts Office in the main lobby of the Pima County Adult Detention Complex at 1270 W. Silverlake Road.
Current official bond routes
- Surety and currency bonds posted by bail bond agents can be taken 24 hours a day at the Inmate Accounts window.
- Lobby kiosks accept cash, credit and debit card transactions 24 hours a day.
- Electronic credit/debit payments are available through the Sheriff-linked TouchPay service and by phone; service fees apply.
- The staffed Inmate Accounts counter lists hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week.
- ID validation is required for bonds.
Initial appearance and release timing
The Sheriff currently lists video initial appearances twice daily, at 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. An inmate ordered released during video court is processed after the session. The Sheriff warns that release processing may take up to five hours and that security rules prevent releases between about 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.
After You Find the Person: Visits, Phone, Money and Mail
Many searches for Pima County jail mugshots are really attempts to reach a family member or handle the next practical step after an arrest. These official routes are more useful than continuing to search photo sites.
Video visitation
PCADC visitation is conducted by video. The Sheriff says on-site visits must be scheduled in advance; same-day walk-ins are not accepted. One on-site 30-minute visit per inmate per week is listed as free, with additional on-site and remote options subject to current fees and rules.
Phone and voicemail
The jail uses GTL/ConnectNetwork services. The Sheriff explains that an AdvancePay account is needed for paid calls or voicemail and that the inmate’s name number is used to create the required PIN format.
Money and inmate accounts
The Inmate Accounts page explains accepted deposit methods, identification requirements and counter hours. Personal checks are not accepted at the inmate account window.
What to Do If the Name Is Missing From the Jail Search
A missing name is not proof that no arrest occurred. Work through the possibilities in this order so you do not waste time on stale third-party databases.
Check the simple explanations first
- Search the legal last name and check spelling.
- Try alternate surnames if the person uses more than one.
- If the arrest was very recent, allow for booking and data-entry time.
- Call the Pima County Adult Detention Complex at (520) 351-8111 if current custody needs immediate confirmation.
- If you know the arresting agency and case number, request the police incident record from that agency rather than assuming the Sheriff owns it.
Then check another custody system
- For a person transferred to Arizona state prison, use the ADCRR Inmate Data Search.
- For federal prison custody, use the Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator.
- For an old county booking, use the Pima County jail-records request process.
- For case outcome, search the appropriate court rather than the live jail roster.

How to Read Arrest and Booking Information Responsibly
An arrest, booking entry, charge or mugshot does not establish guilt. A person may be released without prosecution, charges may change, a case may be dismissed, or the final disposition may differ from the original booking allegation. When identity or legal status matters, verify the person with more than one identifier and check the court of record for the later case history.
Also separate a public-record lookup from a regulated background-screening decision. This page is an informational guide to public sources; it is not a consumer report and should not be used as a substitute for legally compliant employment, housing, credit, insurance or other eligibility screening.
