Find Cherokee County Jail Inmates, Mugshots, Arrests and Booking Records
If you landed here after an arrest in Cherokee County, Georgia, the fastest first step is the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Jail List. It is the county’s official current-inmate search. Use it to confirm custody and booking information, then move to court records, bond instructions or an open-records request only when those are the questions you actually need answered.
Start with the official Cherokee County jail search
The public jail list searches for the latest inmates whose names contain the text you enter. Use the legal name used at booking when you know it. A broad partial-name search can produce several people, so compare every available identifier before assuming you found the right record.

How to Search Cherokee County Jail Inmates Free
The current jail list is the most direct route when your question is simply, “Is this person in the Cherokee County jail right now?” You do not need a paid background-search site to begin. The search page is operated by the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office.
What the Jail Record Can — and Cannot — Tell You
A jail roster is mainly a custody tool. It can help identify a person who is currently listed in the local detention system and may show booking-related details. It is not a complete criminal-history report, and it is not a substitute for the court file.
| Information | What it helps answer | Best source |
|---|---|---|
| Inmate name / ID | Whether the listing appears to match the person you are looking for. | Cherokee Sheriff Jail List |
| Booking date | When the current custody event was processed, when displayed. | Cherokee Sheriff Jail List |
| Charge text | The offense description associated with the booking; later filings can change or clarify the case. | Jail List, then Clerk docket |
| Bond information | Whether a release bond is listed and the amount or status shown for the booking. | Jail List and Sheriff Bond Administration |
| Court dates / judge / docket entries | How the criminal case is moving after the arrest. | Cherokee County Clerk of Courts |
| Final disposition | Whether charges were dismissed, resolved by plea, tried or otherwise disposed of. | Court record, not the mugshot or jail listing |
For anything with legal consequences, re-check the official source close to the time you plan to act. The Sheriff explicitly warns that inmate data changes quickly and may not reflect the latest information.
Are Cherokee County Mugshots and Booking Photos Available Online?
People often use “mugshot search” and “inmate search” as if they were the same thing. They are not. The official jail list is useful even when a booking photograph is not shown for the record you are viewing. Photo availability can vary by the record, the way the official system is displaying data and Georgia rules governing booking photographs.
If a booking photo appears
Treat it only as an identification image taken in connection with a booking. It does not establish that the person committed the charged offense, and it does not tell you how the case ended.
If a booking photo does not appear
Do not assume the person was never arrested. Confirm the custody record first. If you need a releasable booking photograph or older booking material, use the Sheriff’s official records-request route rather than relying on a reposted image.
Georgia also regulates commercial use and removal of arrest booking photographs. The Georgia Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division explains circumstances in which a commercial mugshot website must remove a qualifying image without charging the subject. That removal process is different from asking the Sheriff for an official public record.
What to Do When the Cherokee County Inmate Search Shows No Result
A failed name search is not enough to conclude that no arrest occurred. The person may still be in booking, may already have been released, may have been transferred, or the name may be recorded differently from the spelling you entered.
Try the official jail list again after booking has had time to process. If the situation is urgent, call the Adult Detention Center at 678-493-4200 instead of repeatedly refreshing third-party pages.
Try the legal last name, a partial spelling or a known alternate spelling. Then compare identifiers carefully if several results appear.
Current-inmate lists are designed around custody status. Use the Clerk docket for the criminal case or the Sheriff’s records process for releasable older booking or incident records.
Use the Georgia Department of Corrections Find an Offender search. GDC says its tool can be searched by name, ID, case number and other identifying information.
Use the VINE victim-notification route linked by the Sheriff rather than manually checking the roster all day. VINE can be useful for custody-status notifications where available.
How to Check Cherokee County Criminal Court Records After an Arrest
The jail record and the court record answer different questions. The jail list helps with present custody. The court docket is the better place to follow filings, hearing dates, judge assignment and the overall posture of a criminal case.
If you need copies rather than just a docket view, the Clerk’s Obtaining Copies page explains regular and certified-copy options. It currently lists regular public-terminal copies at $0.50 per page and clerk-assisted regular copies at $1.00 per page; mailed regular copies are also listed at $1.00 per page. Verify the current fee before ordering because statutory fees can change.
How to Request Older Arrest, Booking or Incident Records
If the person is no longer on the current jail list, use the record type that matches what you need. A current-inmate search is not designed to be a permanent archive of every past arrest.
Incident report
The Sheriff’s Records page says that people who already have a case number can call 678-493-4140 Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., to request an incident report.
Open-records request
The same page provides an online Open Records route under Georgia’s Open Records Act. Public records are generally available for inspection and copying unless a specific exemption applies. A withheld record should be tied to the applicable legal exemption.
Be specific. Include the person’s full name, approximate arrest or incident date, case number if known, arresting agency and the exact document you want. A narrow request is easier for the records custodian to identify than a request for “everything.”
Bond Information: What Families Usually Need Next
If the inmate is in custody and the next question is release, move from the roster to the Sheriff’s Bond Administration instructions. The official page explains cash, professional and property bonds and gives the Bond Administrator’s number as 678-493-4164.
| Bond route | Key official detail | What to verify before acting |
|---|---|---|
| Cash bond | The full bond is paid, plus a separate non-refundable $20 state-required bond fee. The Sheriff says the $20 must be exact cash. | Confirm the current amount, all charges and whether any other hold blocks release. |
| Debit / credit card | The Sheriff links an online card-payment route and currently lists a $10 automation fee plus a 5% administrative fee, in addition to the separate non-refundable $20 state-required bond fee. | Read the current checkout fees before paying. |
| Professional bondsman | The Sheriff publishes an approved-company list, states that it cannot recommend a particular company, and lists the professional bond fee as 15% or a $50 minimum per bonded charge or offense. | Confirm the company is approved and understand the non-refundable fee before signing. |
| Property bond | Property documentation, paid taxes, sufficient equity and participation by deeded owners are among the listed requirements. | Review the complete official checklist before traveling to the jail. |
A bond is a release guarantee tied to court appearance; it is not the fine or final punishment for the criminal charge.
Visitation, Mail, Money, Property and Phone Calls
Once custody is confirmed, families often need practical jail information rather than more arrest-record searching. The Sheriff’s Inmate Information page is the best place to check current rules for inmate mail, property, accounts, medical services and phone access.
Video visitation
The Adult Detention Center offers on-site and remote video visitation. The Sheriff says visits depend on the inmate’s current housing and status, so use the official visitation page to confirm the current schedule and registration process before planning a visit.
Personal mail
Personal inmate mail is routed through a central scanning facility. The Sheriff’s published mailing notice gives this format: JAILATM.com – Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, inmate name / inmate number, 925B Peachtree St. NE, Box 2062, Atlanta, GA 30309. Legal and governmental mail follows separate rules and goes directly to the detention center.
Commissary money
The Sheriff says money orders may be used for inmate accounts, while cash and personal checks are not accepted through mail. Deposits may also be made online or at the ADC lobby ATM. For commissary-account questions, the Inmate Records Manager number is 678-493-4209.
Property pickup
An inmate must complete a property-release form before the named person can collect eligible property. The Sheriff lists pickup times as Monday–Friday, excluding holidays, 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m., and requires the recipient to show valid government-issued photo identification.
Phone calls
The inmate-information page says general inmate telephone access is available from 6:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m., subject to jail status and disciplinary restrictions. Questions about the inmate telephone account are handled by the listed phone-service provider.
Medical inquiries
The Sheriff lists in-house medical, dental and mental-health services through its contracted provider and publishes 678-493-4547 for medical inquiries. Private medical information is not the same as a public jail record and may be restricted.
Which Official Tool Should You Use?
Choose the source by the question you need answered. This prevents the common mistake of using a current jail roster to answer a court question, or a court docket to guess where someone is physically housed.
| Your question | Use this source | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Is the person in Cherokee County jail now? | Cherokee Sheriff Jail List | Current local custody and booking lookup. |
| What happened in the criminal case? | Cherokee Clerk Case Search | Docket posture, parties, court dates and judge assignment. |
| I need an incident or releasable older record. | Sheriff Records | Incident reports and Open Records requests. |
| How can bond be posted? | Sheriff Bond Administration | Cash, card, professional and property bond instructions. |
| How do I visit or handle inmate services? | Sheriff Inmate Information | Mail, money, property, phone and medical-service information. |
| Has the person moved into state prison custody? | Georgia DOC Find an Offender | Georgia Department of Corrections custody, not county-jail custody. |
| I need statewide criminal-history information. | Georgia Bureau of Investigation | Georgia criminal-history information and official guidance. |
How to Avoid a Wrong-Person Match
Names alone are a weak identifier, especially with common surnames. Before sharing, saving or acting on an arrest record, compare several details and then check the court docket if you need to know what happened after booking.
- Match the full legal name rather than a nickname.
- Compare inmate ID or booking identifiers when displayed.
- Check the booking date against the incident you are researching.
- Read every listed charge; do not rely on a screenshot headline.
- Confirm current custody separately from case disposition.
- Use the court record before describing a person as convicted.
