GoUpstate Mugshots: Find Recent Spartanburg County Bookings and Verify What Happened Next
People searching for GoUpstate mugshots are usually looking for recent Spartanburg-area arrests, booking photographs or jail information. GoUpstate is a local news publication, but the current government source for Spartanburg County booking information is the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Start with the Sheriff’s Bookings Search, confirm that you have the correct person, then use court records when you need to know what happened after the booking. A mugshot or jail intake record documents an arrest; it does not prove guilt or show the final outcome of a criminal case.
Fastest official starting point
Use the Sheriff’s official booking system if you are looking for a recent Spartanburg County booking. The Sheriff’s detention pages explain that public inmate and booking information may change quickly, so time-sensitive custody questions should be confirmed directly with the Detention Center.
What Are You Trying to Find?
Choose the source based on the question you actually need answered. A jail booking page, court record and statewide criminal-history search are different records and should not be treated as interchangeable.
What Does “GoUpstate Mugshots” Mean?
GoUpstate is associated with the Spartanburg Herald-Journal and local Spartanburg news. Someone searching that phrase may be trying to rediscover a news item, a previously published arrest photo or a current Spartanburg County booking.
The distinction matters because a newspaper is not the government custodian of the county jail roster. News organizations select which incidents they cover, while the Sheriff’s Office maintains the county detention and booking systems.
GoUpstate or news coverage
Useful when you are trying to locate a published news report, arrest story or other local reporting. News archives may not show every person booked into the county jail.
Official booking records
Use the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office when the immediate question is whether a person was booked, appears in the public booking system or may currently be in county detention.
How to Search Recent Spartanburg County Mugshots and Bookings
The Sheriff’s current website links directly to a dedicated Bookings Search. Use that government route rather than assuming a third-party mugshot page has the newest or most accurate jail information.
Today, Last 24 Hours, 7 Days or 30 Days: Which Search Should You Use?
The Sheriff’s current public route is presented as a Bookings Search. Do not assume that every result on the page represents a fixed “24-hour mugshot list” unless the booking dates displayed by the system actually support that conclusion.
| What you need | Best starting source | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Booking from today | Sheriff Bookings Search | Look at the booking date and details shown for the matching person. |
| Last 24 hours | Sheriff Bookings Search | Compare the displayed booking time/date with your own 24-hour cutoff. |
| Last 7–30 days | Bookings Search + court records | If the jail entry is no longer obvious, use the court case to continue the search. |
| Older arrest | Court index / Sheriff Records | Look for the court case or request the relevant incident report. |
| State criminal history | SLED CATCH | Use South Carolina’s criminal-history system rather than a county mugshot page. |
Verify the Person Before You Treat a Mugshot as a Match
Misidentification is one of the biggest risks with arrest-record searches. Common names, similar ages and old screenshots can easily lead to the wrong person.
- Compare the full first, middle and last name.
- Check the booking date rather than relying only on the photograph.
- Use the inmate, name or booking number when one is displayed.
- Compare charges and case identifiers with the court record.
- Do not rely on a matching first and last name alone.
How to Check Current Custody and Bond Information
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Detention Services Division says its inmate population and booked/released information is intended to help identify inmates and may include bail and booking details. The agency also warns that information can change quickly.
Start with the Sheriff’s inmate or booking information. If the matter is urgent or the online status is unclear, contact the Detention Center directly.
Use the currently displayed jail or court information. Bond conditions can change after a hearing, so avoid relying on an old screenshot.
A person may no longer appear as currently housed even though the court case continues. Switch to the Spartanburg County Public Index.
If county custody ends after sentencing or transfer, check the South Carolina Department of Corrections inmate search when state-prison custody may apply.

After the Mugshot: Check the Spartanburg County Court Case
The booking record tells you what was recorded at jail intake. The court record is the more useful source for following the case after arrest, including later court activity and case disposition.
Spartanburg County is in South Carolina’s 7th Judicial Circuit. The South Carolina Judicial Branch provides a county courthouse page and Case Records Search route for Spartanburg.

Visiting Someone in the Spartanburg County Detention Center
The Sheriff’s current visitation policy states that an inmate is generally allowed two 30-minute visitation time slots per week, subject to facility restrictions, plus an available paid remote visit. Visits can be limited, cancelled or denied for security and operational reasons.
Visitors should schedule through the current jail visitation process and verify instructions before traveling. The Sheriff lists reasons a visit can be refused or ended, including lack of identification, arriving late, not being on an approved visitor list, inappropriate behavior, refusal to submit to required security procedures or failure to follow dress and facility rules.
Sending Money, Mail or Books to an Inmate
Money deposits
The Sheriff states that the lobby kiosk at the main jail accepts cash, credit cards or debit cards and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Fees apply.
The Sheriff also provides an online deposit route through McDaniel Supply Company. Have the inmate’s name or inmate ID ready before using an outside payment service.
General inmate mail
The Sheriff says general inmate mail is scanned and viewed digitally. Its current published address is:
Spartanburg County Detention Center
Inmate Name and Name Number
PO Box 9133
Seminole, FL 33775
Books
The Sheriff’s current mail rules state that approved books may be ordered for direct delivery from Amazon or Barnes & Noble and must be paperback. Used books, hardcover or leather-covered books and prohibited material are not accepted under the listed rules.
Need the Actual Sheriff’s Incident Report?
A booking record and a police incident report are different documents. If the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office created the report, its Records Section is the logical starting point.

The Sheriff asks report requesters to provide useful locating information such as the case number, incident date, people involved and the nature of the incident. Providing those details can make it easier for staff to locate the correct record.

Older Arrests, State Criminal Histories and State-Prison Custody
A county booking search is not a complete substitute for a South Carolina criminal-history report, and neither one is the same as the state prison roster.
SLED CATCH
South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s CATCH system provides name-based South Carolina criminal-record searches.
The standard criminal record check is currently listed at $25, with applicable online service/convenience charges.
SCDC inmate search
Use the South Carolina Department of Corrections search when a person may be serving a state prison sentence.
SCDC explains that its public search covers people currently sentenced to and incarcerated by SCDC, not county jail detainees or people on probation or parole.
South Carolina VINE
Victims and concerned citizens can use South Carolina VINE for offender status information and notification services.
The SCDC Victim Services page lists the automated VINE line at 1-866-727-2846.
Do Not Treat a Mugshot Search as a Background Check
A county booking result is not a complete statewide criminal-history report. It can also be incomplete as evidence of the final court outcome because a booking occurs near the beginning of the criminal process.
SLED explains that its CATCH system is a name-based South Carolina criminal-history search. It also cautions that name-based results can differ from fingerprint-based results and can produce false positives or false negatives when identity details do not match accurately.
Common Search Problems and What to Do
Check spelling and confirm the county. The person may not be in Spartanburg County custody, may have been released, or the event may be too old for the route you are using. Try the court index next.
Allow for processing differences and verify the correct court jurisdiction. If the matter is recent, records may not appear everywhere at exactly the same time.
Use the booking date, case number, inmate identifier and other matching details. Do not identify someone based only on the photograph or a common name.
Check the current court disposition. An old arrest image can remain online long after custody ends or the legal outcome changes.
Use the SCDC inmate search instead of the county jail search if the person has been sentenced into South Carolina Department of Corrections custody.
Contact the agency responsible for that record. SLED also provides procedures for addressing errors in South Carolina criminal-history information.
